Secondary brain tumors after cranial radiation therapy: A single-institution study
ConclusionOur study shows that patients who received cranial irradiation were at risk of secondary brain tumors such as cavernomas and meningiomas. Thus, a meticulous follow-up of cancer survivors with history of cranial irradiation by an annual MRI scan is justifiable. This will help clinicians to detect secondary brain tumors early and make its management much easier. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Obesity in patients with carcinoma cervix increases the risk of adverse events
Publication date: March–April 2020Source: Reports of Practical Oncology & Radiotherapy, Volume 25, Issue 2Author(s): Ramaiah Vinay Kumar, Suman BhaskerAbstractObesity has become epidemic both in developed and developing countries. Socio-economic (SE) development has resulted in increased prevalence of obesity across all social groups in developing countries that is contrary to the effects of rising SE status on prevalence of obesity in the developed world. Obesity is not only associated with metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, diabetes but is also a risk factor for cancer and is responsible for increased cancer m...

Application of the phase-space distribution approach of Monte Carlo for radiation contamination dose estimation from the (n,γ), (γ,n) nuclear reactions and linac leakage photons in the megavoltage radiotherapy facility
ConclusionDesigning the PSD file in MC modeling helps user to solve the problems with complex geometry and physics precisely in a shorter run-time. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

EGSnrc Application for IMRT Planning
This study was performed in four phases: the commissioning of Varian Clinac iX6 MV, the simulation of IMRT planning in EGSnrc, the creation of in-house VDOSE GUI, and the analysis of the isodose contour and dose volume histogram (DVH) curve from several beam angles. The plan paramaters in sequence and control point files were extracted from the planning data in Tan Tock Seng Hospital Singapore (multileaf collimator (MLC) leaf positions – bank A and bank B, gantry angles, coordinate of isocenters, and MU indexes).VDOSE GUI which was created in this study can display the distribution dose curve in each slice and beam ang...

Helical Tomotherapy re-irradiation for patients affected by local radiorecurrent prostate cancer
ConclusionsDespite the inherent bias of a retrospective analysis, our long-term results showed a low toxicity profile with a relatively low rate of biochemical control for HT re-treatment in patients affected by local radiorecurrent prostate cancer. Prospective trials are needed to investigate the role of EBRT in this setting. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Characterization of irregular electron beam for boost dose after whole breast irradiation
Publication date: Available online 22 January 2020Source: Reports of Practical Oncology & RadiotherapyAuthor(s): M. Saadeldin Ayat, M. Elwan AzharAbstractIrradiating a tumor bed with boost dose after whole breast irradiation helps reducing the probability of local recurrence. However, the success of electron beam treatment with a small area aiming to cover a superficial lesion is a dual challenge as it requires an adequate dosimetry beside a double check for dose coverage with an estimation of various combined uncertainty of tumor location and losing lateral electron equilibrium within small field dimensions.Aim of workthi...

Postoperative endometrial carcinoma treated with external beam irradiation plus vaginal-cuff brachytherapy. Is there a dose relationship with G2 vaginal complications?
ConclusionsDoses>68 Gy EQD2(α/β=3Gy) at 2 cm3 to the most exposed area of the vagina were associated with late G2 vaginal toxicity in postoperative EC patients treated with EBRT + VBT suggesting a very good dose limit to eliminate the risk of G2 late toxicity. The specificity obtained indicates the need for prospective analyses. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Evaluation of the target dose coverage of stereotactic body radiotherapy for lung cancer using helical tomotherapy: A dynamic phantom study

Monte Carlo study on the secondary cancer risk estimations for patients undergoing prostate radiotherapy: a humanoid phantom study
ConclusionsWe concluded that secondary neutron portion was higher than other radiation. Then, we recommended more attention to neutrons in the radiation protection in linac based high energy radiotherapy. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Choosing between conventional and hypofractionated prostate cancer radiation therapy: results from a study of shared decision-making
ConclusionsMost patients declined the convenience of moderate hypofractionation due to potentially increased acute toxicity, and the uncertainty of long-term outcomes. We advocate that no patient should be offered hypofractionation without a thorough discussion of uncertainty and acute toxicity. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Myeloid sarcoma of the tongue as a first manifestation of acute promyelocytic leukemia: a case report
ConclusionPromyelocytic myeloid cells can infiltrate many organs extramedullary, such as the tongue, and this might precede bone marrow infiltration. The early identification of myeloid sarcoma allows to carry out an early treatment of the APL. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Metformin and statins: a possible role in high-risk prostate cancer
ConclusionMetformin and statins were not associated with BFFS or DFFS improvement in our analysis. However, the small number of patients treated with these drugs limits the reliability of the results and prospective studies are needed. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)
