Assessment of urine CCL2 as a potential diagnostic biomarker for acute kidney injury and septic acute kidney injury in intensive care unit patients
In this study, we investigated the potential of plasma and urine CCL2 levels as diagnostic markers for AKI and SAKI in 216 ICU patients. Our findings revealed significant differences in plasma (p < 0.01) and urine CCL2 (p < 0.0001) levels between AKI and non-AKI patients in the ICU. Notably, urine CCL2 demonstrated promising predictive value for AKI, exhibiting high specificity and sensitivity (AUC = 0.8976; p < 0.0001). Furthermore, we observed higher urine CCL2 levels in SAKI compared to non-septic AKI (p < 0.001) and urine CCL2 could also differentiate SAKI from non-septic AKI (AUC = 0.7597; p < 0.0001). ...

Ultra-processed food consumption and the risk of incident chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
CONCLUSIONS: High-dose UPF intake was associated with an increased risk of incident CKD. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Thus, more standardized clinical studies and further exploration of the mechanisms are needed in the future.PMID:38345016 | PMC:PMC10863522 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2306224 (Source: Renal Failure)

Tacrolimus trough level and oxidative stress in Tunisian kidney transplanted patients
CONCLUSION: Our results have shown that in KT patients, despite the recovery of kidney function, the TAC reduced but did not normalize oxidative stress levels in long-term therapy, and the TAC effect significantly depends on the concentration used.PMID:38345031 | PMC:PMC10863538 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2313863 (Source: Renal Failure)

Comparison of the Watson formula and bioimpedance spectroscopy for measuring body volume and calculating kt/V in patients with peritoneal dialysis
Ren Fail. 2024 Dec;46(1):2313360. doi: 10.1080/0886022X.2024.2313360. Epub 2024 Feb 12.ABSTRACTThere were significant differences between Vwat and Vbis and between Kt/Vwat and Kt/Vbis. Kt/Vwat may underestimate small-solute dialysis adequacy in most cases. Kt/Vbis instead of Kt/Vwat could be accounted for in creating individualized dialysis prescriptions if the patient has no obvious clinical symptoms.PMID:38345032 | PMC:PMC10863529 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2313360 (Source: Renal Failure)

Kr üppel-like factor 4 modulates the miR-101/COL10A1 axis to inhibit renal fibrosis after AKI by regulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition
This study tested the hypothesis that the Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4)/miR-101/Collagen alpha-1X (COL10A1) axis could inhibit epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and renal fibrosis after AKI in a mouse model of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced renal fibrosis and HK-2 cells by gene silencing, overexpression, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, real-time quantitative PCR, Western blotting, dual-luciferase reporter assay, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and ELISA. Compared with the Sham group, I/R induced renal tubular and glomerular injury and fibrosis, and increased the levels of BUN, serum Scr and ne...

Cardiovascular and renal safety outcomes of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl-hydroxylase inhibitor roxadustat for anemia patients with chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Ren Fail. 2024 Dec;46(1):2313864. doi: 10.1080/0886022X.2024.2313864. Epub 2024 Feb 12.ABSTRACTThis systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate the cardiac and kidney-related adverse effects of roxadustat for the treatment of anemia in CKD patients. 18 trials with a total of 8806 participants were identified for analysis. We employed a fixed-effects model for analysis. The pooled result revealed no significant difference in the risk of occurrence of cardiac disorders when comparing CKD patients receiving roxadustat with the placebo (RR = 1.049; CI [0.918 to 1.200]) or ESA (RR = 1.066; CI [0.919 to 1.235]...

Current perspectives and trends of the research on hypertensive nephropathy: a bibliometric analysis from 2000 to 2023
This study uses the bibliometric method to identify the evolutionary development and recent hotspots of hypertensive nephropathy. The Web of Science Core Collection database was used to extract publications on hypertensive nephropathy from January 2000 to November 2023. CiteSpace was used to capture the patterns and trends from multi-perspectives, including countries/regions, institutions, keywords, and references. In total, 557 publications on hypertensive nephropathy were eligible for inclusion. China (n = 208, 37.34%) was the most influential contributor among all the countries. Veterans Health Administration (n = 19, 3...

Elevated ALOX12 in renal tissue predicts progression in diabetic kidney disease
This study aims to identify the main differentially expressed genes in DKD from transcriptome sequencing results and analyze their diagnostic value. The present study sequenced db/m mouse and db/db mouse to determine the ALOX12 genetic changes related to DKD. After preliminary validation, ALOX12 levels were significantly elevated in the blood of DKD patients, but not during disease progression. Moreover, urine ALOX12 was increased only in macroalbuminuria patients. Therefore, to visualize the diagnostic efficacy of ALOX12 on the onset and progression of renal injury in DKD, we collected kidney tissue from patients for immu...

Value of original and modified pathological scoring systems for prognostic prediction in paraffin-embedded donor kidney core biopsy
CONCLUSIONS: Scoring systems could predict allograft prognosis in paraffin-embedded CB with ten more glomeruli. A simple and pragmatic scoring system should include GS, IF, TA and AH, with weights assigned based on predictive capacity for prognosis. Replacing GS scores with tubulointerstitial scores could significantly improve the predictive capacity of eGFR. The conclusion should be further validated in frozen section.PMID:38345067 | PMC:PMC10863519 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2314630 (Source: Renal Failure)
