Are drug-related dental management cautions in Lexicomp Online for Dentistry evidence-based? A systematic review of the literature
Qadeer, Ayesha / Omolehinwa, Temitope T. / Mupparapu, Mel / Akintoye, Sunday O.Page 754 - 761Objectives: Drug reference databases provide information on potential drug-related medical complications in a dental patient. It is important that database entries and recommendations are supported by evidence-based original studies focused on drug-related dental management complications. The aim of this study was to review and identify database drug categories associated with evidence-based drug-related medical complications during dental treatment.Data sources: Relevant publications on adverse drug reactions and dental management...

Use of modified vertical internal mattress suture versus simple loop interrupted suture in modified Widman flap surgery: a randomized clinical study
Conclusion: Flap closure by modified vertical internal mattress suturing technique results in better improvement in periodontal clinical parameters than the use of simple loop interrupted sutures, especially in nonmolars. (Source: Quintessence International)

Comparison of biofilm removal using glycine air polishing versus sodium bicarbonate air polishing or hand instrumentation on full-arch fixed implant rehabilitations: a split-mouth study
Menini, Maria / Setti, Paolo / Dellepiane, Elena / Zunino, Paola / Pera, Paolo / Pesce, PaoloPage 722 - 730Objectives: To compare the cleaning efficacy of glycine air polishing against two different professional oral hygiene techniques on implants supporting full-arch fixed prostheses.Method and materials: Thirty patients with a total of 32 implant fixed full-arch rehabilitations in the maxilla and/or mandible (134 implants) were included. After the removal of the screw-retained prostheses, baseline peri-implant spontaneous bleeding (SB), Plaque Index (PI), probing depth (PD), and bleeding on probing (BOP) were recorded (T...

The injectable composite resin technique: minimally invasive reconstruction of esthetics and function. Clinical case report with 2-year follow-up
Ge štakovski, DavidPage 712 - 719The injectable composite resin technique is an indirect/direct method that uses a transparent silicone index for accurate and predictable translation of a diagnostic wax-up into composite restorations without the need for tooth preparation. This case report involves a 22-year-old man who presented with esthetic and functional problems associated with diastemas and insufficient tooth visibility. Clinical examination revealed inadequate canine guidance in lateral excursion. The treatment plan included the fabrication of composite veneers for the maxillary incisors and canines. A wax-up was p...

Clinical performance of computer-engineered complete dentures: a retrospective pilot study
Schlenz, Maximiliane Amelie / Schmidt, Alexander / W östmann, Bernd / Rehmann, PeterPage 706 - 711Objectives: The aim of this retrospective pilot study was to analyze the clinical performance of computer-engineered complete dentures (CECDs) in edentulous patients regarding survival and maintenance.Method and materials: For this retrospective analysis, data from 10 patients who received CECD treatment in each arch (Digital Denture, Ivoclar Vivadent) between 2015 and 2016 were analyzed. The following aspects were assessed: number of appointments required for treatment, number of interventions during the initial ( ≤ 4 week...

Periodontopathogenic bacteria in prosthetic joint infection: a retrospective analysis of 1,673 patients
Conclusions: Within their limits, the presented results indicate that periodontal bacteria may contribute similarly to PJI and other surgically treated orthopedic infections. The finding that periodontal pathogenic bacteria were identified in both groups highlights the importance of oral infection control prior to orthopedic surgery. (Source: Quintessence International)

Changes in understanding of painful temporomandibular disorders: the history of a transformation
Sk ármeta, Nicolas Patri / Pesce, Maria Cecilia / Saldivia, Josefina / Espinoza-Mellado, Paula / Montini, Francisca / Sotomayor, ClaudioPage 662 - 669Objective: The understanding the etiology of painful temporomandibular disorders (TMD) has evolved over the last eight decades. Evidence-based systematic research had questioned historical concepts and abandoned preconceived dogmas based purely on mechanically based etiologies, transforming TMD into a complex musculoskeletal chronic pain model. Unfortunately, many of these old ideas persist in undergraduate education and the dental community. Revisiting the historical develo...

Treatment of mandibular Class II furcations using bovine-derived bone xenograft with or without a collagen membrane: a randomized controlled trial
Conclusions: Both treatments were clinically effective with no statistically significant difference between them but as there was no histologic analysis, the amount of real regeneration could not be analyzed. This conclusion should be confirmed by longer follow-up periods. (Source: Quintessence International)

Short dental implant as alternative to long implant with bone augmentation of the atrophic posterior ridge: a systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs
Conclusions: Short dental implants seem to be an effective alternative treatment for the atrophic posterior ridge. The pooled data revealed that short dental implants have statistically less marginal bone loss and fewer postoperative complications when compared to standard-length dental implants with augmentation. However, there are no statistically significant differences in regard to implant failure. (Source: Quintessence International)

Postoperative pain intensity associated with the use of different nickel-titanium shaping systems during single-appointment endodontic retreatment: a randomized clinical trial
Conclusions: Since One Shape and Revo-S are both based on the rotational approach and WaveOne on reciprocal approach, less incidence of postoperative pain intensity with One Shape and Revo-S in single-appointment nonsurgical endodontic retreatment could be associated with the motion type during root canal shaping.
