Pain assessment during mandibular nerve block injection with the aid of dental vibe tool in pediatric dental patients: a randomized clinical trial
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of DentalVibe in pain reduction during local anesthetic injection compared to traditional injection in pediatric patients.Method and materials: This cross-over randomized controlled clinical trial included a sample of 60 children, aged 5 to 7 years, who were selected based on the need for local anesthesia for bilateral mandibular pulpotomy treatment. They were randomly allocated into two groups. Each group received two mandibular nerve block injections, with a 2-week interval as the washing out period. At first appointment, mandibular nerve block injection was performed either...

PROA concept: prosthetic restoration with orthodontic appliance
S ánchez-Monescillo, Andrés / Duarte, SillasPage 304 - 308This paper describes an alternative computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique for the creation of a combined prosthetic restoration with orthodontic appliance (PROA). This concept allows the use of orthodontic appliances such as brackets, attachments, or any other type of appliance over different types of prosthetic restorations. The PROA concept aims to mitigate problems associated with performing restorative treatment when orthodontic treatment is necessary. This proposed concept provides the clinicians with proper control and planni...

Implant splinting in mandibular overdentures: a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the meta-analysis, there is no influence of implant splinting on peri-implant marginal bone level and implant failures for completely edentulous patients rehabilitated with mandibular implant overdentures. However, this result should be interpreted with caution due to the limited number of analyzed studies, most of them considered at unclear risk of bias. Well-designed randomized controlled trials with follow-up periods of at least 5 years are highly recommended to establish evidence with regard to the influence of implant splinting on mandibular overdentures. An alternative approach for vestibular extension using temporary coverage of epithelialized palatal grafts
Meitner, Sean / Papadimitriou, Dimitrios / Kotsailidi, Elli Anna / Habibzadeh, Maryam / Chochlidakis, Konstantinos / Ercoli, Carlo / Caton, Jack / Tsigarida, AlexandraPage 286 - 292An alternative approach was used to increase the buccal vestibular depth of two edentulous patients, using free epithelialized palatal grafts. Two edentulous patients presented with shallow vestibules and inadequate keratinized tissue width in the mandibular anterior region. These sites were treated with vestibuloplasty followed by placement of an epithelialized palatal graft. In order to minimize graft movement and possible mechanical trauma to...

An examination of the 2-year results obtained from hyaluronic acid filler injection for interdental papilla losses
Conclusion: The results showed that success was obtained in both arches with hyaluronic acid filler injection applied for reconstruction of multiple papilla losses; because the filling percentages in the maxilla at 3 months and 12 months were greater than those in the mandible, it can be suggested that results can be obtained more quickly and at a higher level in the maxilla. Spontaneous mandibular fracture as a complication of inferior alveolar nerve transposition and placement of endosseous dental implants in the atrophic mandible: a review of the literature and a report of two cases and their nonsurgical conservative management
Conclusions: Spontaneous fractures following inferior alveolar nerve transposition are an important but rare complication. Conservative treatment modalities might be useful and indicated in some of those cases. (Source: Quintessence International)

Primary wound closure and perioperative antibiotic therapy for prevention of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw after tooth extraction
Conclusion: Tooth extractions, if performed under certain circumstances, would not seem to constitute a major risk factor for the development of BRONJ. The treatment protocol presented in this article seems to be highly effective in preventing development of ONJ after tooth extraction in patients under current or previous bisphosphonate therapy. Presence of Trichomonas tenax and Entamoeba gingivalis in peri-implantitis lesions
Arpa ğ, Osman Fatih / Kaya, Özlem MakbulePage 212 - 218Objective: The aim was to investigate the presence of Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax in peri-implantitis lesions.Method and materials: A total of 141 individuals were included in this study, of which 40 had clinically healthy implants (group H); the remaining were associated with peri-implantitis (group P). Gingival crevicular fluid was collected using absorbent paper, followed by a dental plaque sample from the peri-implant sulcus/pocket using a titanium curette. The samples were transferred into an Eppendorf tube. Each specimen was divided into two part...

Treatment of periodontal pockets at the distal aspect of mandibular second molar after surgical removal of impacted third molar and application of L-PRF: a split-mouth randomized clinical trial
Gasparro, Roberta / Sammartino, Gilberto / Mariniello, Mauro / di Lauro, Alessandro Espedito / Spagnuolo, Gianrico / Marenzi, GaetanoPage 204 - 211Objectives: Presence of clinical attachment loss on the distal aspect to the second molar may be associated with malposition of the third molar. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reduction of clinical attachment loss at the distal aspect of the second molar after third molar extraction and application of leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF).Method and materials: Eighteen subjects with a clinical attachment loss on the distal site to the second molar associated wit...

Evaluation of the effect o f the application of hyaluronic acid following laser-assisted frenectomy: an examiner-blind, randomized, controlled clinical study
Turgut Çankaya, Zeynep / Gürbüz, Sühan / Bakirarar, Batuhan / Ünsal, Berrin / Kurtiş, BülentPage 188 - 201Objective: The effect of the hyaluronic acid (HA) on laser-assisted frenectomy wound healing has not been tested. This controlled, randomized, examiner-blinded clinical study aimed to compare the outcomes of laser-assisted frenectomy with and without an HA-containing gel application.Method and materials: The study included 40 patients aged 18 to 40 years, with high labial frenulum attachment requiring frenectomy. Following laser-assisted frenectomy, HA-gel was applied topically to the wound surface at the day of...
