Parliamentary reaction to the announcement and implementation of the UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy: applied thematic analysis of 2016-2020 parliamentary debates
CONCLUSIONS: After the announcement, the SDIL had cross-party support and was recognised to have encouraged reformulation prior to implementation. Lessons for governments indicate that the combination of cross-party support and a policy's documented success in achieving its aim can help cement the resilience of it to opposition and threats of repeal.PMID:38263748 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000247 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Empirically derived portion sizes from the DOrtmund Nutritional and Anthropometric Longitudinally Designed (DONALD) study for 4- to 18-year-old children and adolescents to simplify analysis of dietary data using FFQ
CONCLUSION: We provide empirically derived portion sizes for children and adolescents. These data are useful to establish dietary assessment methods based on estimates of portion sizes, such as FFQ, for children and adolescents.PMID:38258517 | DOI:10.1017/S136898002400017X (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Turkish adaptation, validation and reliability of the US Adult Food Security Survey Module in university students
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study that validates and reports the Turkish version of AFSSM in university students, and the results of our study show that the Turkish AFSSM is a valid and reliable tool for determining food security in university students. AFSSM can be used by researchers to examine the food security of university students.PMID:38250752 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000223 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

South East Asian Nutrition Surveys II (SEANUTS II) Thailand: Triple burden of malnutrition among Thai children aged 6 months to 12 years
CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of stunting and anemia among children aged 1-3.9 years and overweight and obesity among children aged 7-12.9 years requires continued attention. While prevalence of biochemical micronutrient deficiencies was not high (except for iron), high prevalence of dietary inadequacies for several micronutrients warrants further in-depth investigations.PMID:38250788 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000053 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Estimating Minimum Dietary Diversity for Children Aged 6-23 Months: A Comparison of Agreement and Cost of Two Recall Methods in Cambodia and Zambia
CONCLUSION: The two recall methods estimated MDD and most other infant and young child feeding indicators equivalently in Cambodia but not in Zambia, compared to the observation. The list-based method produced slightly more accurate estimates of MDD at the population level, took less time to administer, and was less costly to implement.PMID:38250809 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000107 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Food environment trajectories: a sequence analysis from the CARTaGENE cohort

Trends of risk factors associated with childhood stunting and anaemia in Ghana: evidence from the Demographic Health Survey and Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (2003-2017)
CONCLUSION: In order to prevent these indicators of child malnutrition, key consideration must be given to the early developmental stages of life. Child health policies must focus on addressing the key contextual factors of child malnutrition.PMID:38253537 | PMC:PMC10830376 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002951 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Relationship between home garden ownership and the consumption of fruits and vegetables
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that food and nutrition policy measures that promote home gardens can improve consumption of diversified diets including FV among vulnerable rural households in Northern Ghana. Additionally, households with lower income may benefit from nutrition behaviour change communication campaigns directed towards increasing a positive attitude to FV intake.PMID:38253554 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000272 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Exploring the world of food: the perspective of low income families on factors influencing their food choices
CONCLUSIONS: While the findings suggest that a complex range of factors are involved in family food choices, it is clear that policy measures and regulations are needed to stave off the impacts of rising social inequality and food poverty. Health promoters should strive to find non-stigmatising interventions to bridge the nutritional divide experienced by lower-income families.PMID:38234109 | DOI:10.1017/S136898002400020X (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Adverse childhood experiences and unhealthy dietary behaviours in adulthood
CONCLUSIONS: ACE can have long-term consequences for unhealthy dietary behaviours in adulthood, and this relationship is partially due to a lower likelihood of higher perceived stress and college educational attainment among ACE-exposed persons. Future research is needed to understand further the influence of ACE on dietary patterns over the life course.PMID:38234114 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000144 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Adolescents' experiences with the food selection at the sports arena in the area of Oslo, Norway: a focus group study
CONCLUSIONS: Participants wished for a healthier food selection at the sports arena. Cost of food emerged as a factor that influenced their food choices. Our study also indicates that marketing of unhealthy food and beverages should be restricted, to influence adolescence food choice towards healthier alternatives.PMID:38238883 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000181 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

An analysis of the dual burden of childhood stunting and wasting in Myanmar: a copula geoadditive modelling approach
CONCLUSION: The study provides data-driven evidence about the association between stunting and wasting and their spatial variation across Myanmar. The resulting insights can aid in the formulation and implementation of targeted, region-specific interventions towards improving the state of childhood under-nutrition in Myanmar.PMID:38238891 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000193 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Background commentary on the researching the obesogenic food environment (rofe) project
CONCLUSION: Together, the findings of the ROFE study presented in this supplement have increased understanding of how communities in SA and Ghana interact with their food supplies, and has led to identification of specific opportunities to improve food supply policies, in ways that create incentives for the production and consumption of healthy, relative to unhealthy foods.PMID:38229559 | DOI:10.1017/S136898002300280X (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Measuring the intangible resources caregivers need to provide nurturing care during the complementary feeding period: A scoping review in low- and lower-middle-income countries
CONCLUSIONS: Measurement of caregiver resources during the complementary feeding period is limited. Measuring caregiver resources is essential for prioritizing caregivers and understanding how resources influence child care, feeding, and nutrition.PMID:38223942 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000065 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)
