Associations of dietary and sedentary behaviours of pregnant women with their children's birth weight: findings from the CHAT trial in Australia
CONCLUSION: Maternal consumption of processed meat during pregnancy was associated with increased risk of macrosomia. Increasing number of dietary recommendations met by mothers was associated with lower risk of macrosomia. The findings suggested encouraging pregnancy women to meet dietary recommendation will benefit children's birth weight.PMID:37842791 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002161 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Eating out intensity, ultra-processed foods and body mass index among Albanian youth
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence for the hypothesis that eating OH plays an important role in the association of UPFs and UMPFs with BMI in youth. While causality cannot be established due to cross-sectional design, to the best of our knowledge, we provide the first assessment of UPFs and UMPFs intake in a south-eastern European setting, while highlighting the need for establishing and integrating youth nutrition into national nutritional surveillance systems for key dietary risk factors in Albania.PMID:37842793 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002173 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Evaluation of a menu box delivery service for Australian long day care services to improve food provision and child intake: a cluster randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Menu compliance can be improved via a menu delivery service, delivering equivalent impacts to child food provision and dietary intake compared to an online training program. Further exploration of cooks acceptability and cost are essential before scaling up to implementation.PMID:37830292 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002136 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Environmental sustainability and food provision in the early childhood and education setting
CONCLUSIONS: Childcare settings procure and provide large volumes of food; however, food waste awareness appears limited, and environmentally sustainable food procurement practices may be less affordable and difficult to achieve. Understanding the impact of food waste awareness on food waste practices and food costs across time merits further research.PMID:37807888 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023001908 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Dietary inflammatory potential is associated with higher odds of hepatic steatosis in US adults: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that a diet score that is associated with inflammatory markers is associated with hepatic steatosis. Reducing or avoiding pro-inflammatory diets intake might be an attractive strategy for fatty liver disease prevention.PMID:37807893 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023001970 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

A cross-sectional study evaluating the prevalence and predictors of malnutrition among children and adolescents visiting an urban academic hospital in Nepal
CONCLUSIONS: We found that the prevalence of stunting and wasting at KCH are higher than previously published studies in Nepal. Malnutrition persists beyond five years, and we identified several predictors of malnutrition. Increased provision of and access to clinical nutrition programs is an essential need for KCH. Twinning programs that provide local clinicians with increased opportunities for education and mentorship of local staff remains a pressing need in Nepal.PMID:37811557 | DOI:10.1017/S136898002300188X (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Lower redemption of monthly Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children benefits associated with higher risk of program discontinuation
CONCLUSIONS: Lower WIC benefit redemption was associated with higher risk of failing to recertify among participants. Focused nutrition education around benefit redemption may improve WIC retention and child health through incremental increases in food benefit redemption.PMID:37811563 | DOI:10.1017/S136898002300201X (Source: Public Health Nutrition)
