Pilot Mental Health Screening of Medically Admitted Patients with Cystic Fibrosis
Multinational studies have identified an increased risk for depression and anxiety among the cystic fibrosis (CF) population. People with cystic fibrosis (CF) and depression have decreased lung function, adherence and quality of life, and increased healthcare utilization. This is a pilot study of a mental health screening and referral of patients with CF in a large tertiary medical center. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Telepsychiatry Consultation for Medical and Surgical Inpatient Units
Telepsychiatry is becoming more commonplace in the provision of psychiatric care. Most commonly used in the outpatient setting, there is little available in the literature as to the use of telepsychiatry for inpatient medical/surgical consultation. This book reviews the foundations, evolution, and current status of Psychosomatic Medicine (nee Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry). Its author has been a major figure in the modern development of the specialty. Dr Lipsitt established and edited two important journals that have shaped our field. Both the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine and General Hospital Psychiatry provided an essential forum for clinical data and broad ranging perspectives that have led to the designation of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry as a recognized subspecialty within Psychiatry. Characteristics of Patients with Constant Observers
The use of constant observers ( “sitters”) has been common practice in many medical centers to maintain patient safety. A retrospective chart review of patients who required sitters from October 1, 2007 to September 31, 2013 at a large, private hospital serving a multiethnic community showed that the top reasons for sitters in clude suicide risk, agitation, fall risk, interfering with medical devices, and confusion/disorientation. Sitters were used for a mean of 3.4 days ranging from 1 to 287 days, with a mean hospital length of stay of 18.9 days. (Source: Psychosomatics)

The Association Between Leukotriene Modifying Agents and Suicidality: A Review of Literature
In 2008 FDA issued a warning regarding possible association between leukotriene modifying agents (LTMAs) and suicidality. The warning remains controversial to this date and this review of literature is an attempt to examine the evidence on the matter. The data supporting a relationship between LTMAs and suicidality comes primarily from reviews of individual case safety reports in adverse event databases; is subject to considerable reporting bias and does not control for confounding factors. Case-control and cohort studies as well as data from clinical trials do not support an association between LTMAs and suicidality. (Source: Psychosomatics)
