Targeting Anxiety to Improve Sleep Disturbance: A Randomized Clinical Trial of App-Based Mindfulness Training
This study tested if app-based MT for anxiety could reduce worry and improve sleep and examined the underlying mechanisms.
Methods
Individuals reporting worry interfering with sleep were randomized to treatment as usual (TAU; n = 40) or TAU + app-based MT (n = 40). Treatment-related changes in worry-related sleep disturbances (WRSDs), worry, nonreactivity, and anxiety were evaluated via self-report questionnaires at 1 and 2 months after treatment initiation. Autonomic neural controls in sleep regulation have been previously demonstrated; however, whether these alternations can be observed by different sleep staging approaches remains unclear. A Longitudinal Study of Age-Based Change in Blood Pressure Reactivity and Negative Affect Reactivity to Natural Stressors
Objective
Aging is theoretically accompanied by emotional gains, but physiological self-regulatory losses. Emotional and physiological regulation can be operationalized as the extent of an increase in negative affect and blood pressure upon experiencing a stressor (i.e., reactivity). Cytomegalovirus and Toxoplasma Gondii Serostatus Prospectively Correlated With Problems in Self-Regulation but not Executive Function Among Older Adults
Conclusions
CMV latent infection was associated with more problems in self-regulation, and the magnitude of this difference was clinically significant. T. gondii latent infection was associated with more problems, but only for women. Latent infection might associate with self-regulation but not EF because of factors influencing self-regulation but not neuropsychological test performance, such as values and emotion. Efforts to link latent infection with EFs might, in the future, include the application of those functions to self-regulation in daily life. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Bidirectional Association Between Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Systemic Autoimmune Diseases Among Probands and Unaffected Siblings: A Nationwide Population-Based Study
Conclusions

Facial Emotion Expression and the Inducibility of Myocardial Ischemia During Cardiac Stress Testing: The Role of Psychological Background Factors
Conclusions
Emotional states immediately before CST and psychological background factors were not associated with the inducibility of ischemia. These findings indicate that the well-documented association between negative emotions with acute clinical manifestations of ischemic heart disease requires a different explanation than a reduced threshold for inducible ischemia. Altered Left Ventricular Myocardial Deformation in Young Women With Borderline Personality Disorder: An Echocardiographic Study
Conclusions
Somatically healthy women with BPD display subtle signs of increased GLS, which is associated with allostatic load as an indicator of the “wear-and-tear” of the body. The association between childhood trauma with GLS was of similar strength but did not reach the threshold for statistical significance. Psychosocial Interventions for Patients With Heart Failure and Their Impact on Depression, Anxiety, Quality of Life, Morbidity, and Mortality: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Objective
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the ability of psychosocial interventions to reduce depression and anxiety, improve quality of life, and reduce hospitalization and mortality rates in patients with heart failure.
Methods
Studies of psychosocial interventions published from 1970 to 2021 were identified through four databases (PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Cochrane). Two authors independently conducted a focused analysis and reached a final consensus on the studies to include, followed by a quality check by a third author. A risk of bias assessment was conducted.

An Evidence-Based Theory of Psychological Adjustment to Long-Term Physical Health Conditions: Applications in Clinical Practice
Conclusions
As an empirically and clinically informed model, TMA-LTC provides a useful guide for assessment, formulation, and treatment in the context of psychological adjustment to LTCs. Future studies are needed to test treatments that have been developed based on TMA-LTC. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Plasma Metabolomic Signature of Early Abuse in Middle-Aged Women
We examined the associations between early abuse and midlife plasma metabolites in two nonoverlapping subsamples from the Nurses’ Health Study II, comprising 803 (mean age = 40 years) and 211 women (mean age = 61 years). Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry assays were used to measure metabolomic profiles, with 283 metabolites consistently measured in both subsamples.
