Psychological Predictors of Response to Open-Label Versus Double-Blind Placebo in a Randomized Controlled Trial in Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Conclusions IBS participants who score low on the Pain Catastrophizing Scale but high on the Visceral Sensitivity Index seem to benefit particularly from OLP. Our study suggests that different psychological mechanisms may be involved in DBP and OLP interventions. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

The Effect of Intranasal Oxytocin on the Association Between Couple Interaction and Sleep: A Placebo-Controlled Study
Objective Although most people in romantic relationships cosleep, biosocial modulators of sleep quality have only recently come into focus. Oxytocin (OT) might be one such modulator, as it had been shown to increase social attachment and safety. We investigated the association between everyday life couple interaction and sleep quality, as well as the effects of OT on this association. Methods Eighty heterosexual couples (N = 160 individuals, mean [standard deviation] age = 28 [5] years) were randomized to self-administer a) 32 international units of intranasal OT or b) placebo during 5 consecutive days. Each mor...

The Relationship Between Overqualification and Incident Diabetes: A 14-Year Follow-Up Study
Conclusions This study adds to the growing body of research literature uncovering the relationships between work exposures and DM risk. The results from the study suggest that higher body mass index and, to a lesser extent, health behaviors may be mediating factors in the association between overqualification and incident DM. Further research on the association of overqualification with DM is warranted. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Associations of Chronic Burden, Sleep Characteristics, and Metabolic Syndrome in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults Study
Conclusion Burden of chronic stress may be an emerging novel risk factor for both poor sleep and MetS. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

The Influence of Emotion Regulation on the Association Between Depression and Heart Rate Variability in Cardiac Patients
Conclusions The use of expressive suppression is likely to potentiate the relation between depressive symptoms and poor vmHRV, which could increase the cardiac risk in these patients. Targeting emotion regulation skills in cardiac rehabilitation programs may be useful for reducing the impact of depression in cardiac patients. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

The Mediating Role of Cardiometabolic Dysregulation on the Relation Between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adult Cognition
Conclusions The present study identifies a combined biological pathway that connects ACEs to cognition in late life. These findings supports the need to empirically determine biological mechanism that can be used to develop targeted clinical interventions to prevent the progression of chronic cognitive impairment. Role of Dopamine Transporter in the Relationship Between Plasma Cortisol and Cognition
Conclusions This is the first study to demonstrate that striatal DAT mediates the cortisol-cognition relationship. Future studies are needed to comprehensively evaluate the role of the dopamine system in cortisol-cognition associations and treatment implications. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Diminished Cellular Immunity and Executive Cognitive Functioning Among Middle-Aged and Elderly Adults
Conclusions These results suggest that EBV antibody titers may be an indicator of immune dysregulation that is more relevant to executive functioning performance than either circulating or stimulated proinflammatory cytokines among community-dwelling adults. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Nonimprovement in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Relation to Activity Patterns, Uplifts and Hassles, and Autonomic Dysfunction
Conclusions This study provided evidence for linking patient-reported nonimprovement to a biological variable indexing autonomic dysfunction and a behavioral measure indicating a deficit in psychological uplifts. These findings suggest a possible marker of illness trajectory that could potentially advance the biomedical underpinnings of CFS. Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT02948556. State-Level Regulations Regarding the Protection of Sexual Minorities and Birth Outcomes: Results From a Population-Based Cohort Study
Conclusions These results provide novel evidence that sexual orientation–related policy protections, measured at the state level, are associated with a decreased risk for adverse birth outcomes among lesbian women. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Effective Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Parameters for the Modulation of Eating Behavior: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions The absence of tDCS-mediated change in eating-related measures may be driven by variation in applied parameters. Consistent application of parameters that seem to be effective for modulating eating behavior is important for identifying the potential impact of tDCS. Using the findings of this review, we propose a series of parameters that researchers should apply in their work. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)
