Childhood Maltreatment and Psychiatric Comorbidity in Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Disorders

Childhood maltreatment is more common in IMID than in a healthy population and is associated with psychiatric comorbidity. Given the high burden of psychiatric disorders in the IMID population, clinicians should be aware of the contribution of maltreatment and the potential need for trauma-informed care strategies. Cardiometabolic Disorders in the Offspring of Parents With Severe Mental Illness
Conclusions
Having a cardiometabolic disorder was associated with male offspring of parents with SMI. Our findings suggest that there is an elevated risk of coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and hypertension in the male offspring of parents with SMI. Our results suggest that the somatic health of offspring of parents with SMI should also be considered in addition to their mental health in clinical practice. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Sex Difference in Comorbid Depression in First-Episode and Drug-Naive Patients With Schizophrenia: Baseline Results From the Depression in Schizophrenia in China Study
Objective
Comorbid depression is common in schizophrenia, and sex differences are prominent in many aspects of schizophrenia. However, few studies have investigated sex difference in comorbid depression in schizophrenia. This large sample study aimed to investigate sex differences in first-episode drug-naive (FEDN) patients with schizophrenia comorbid major depressive episode (SZ-MDE).
Methods
A total of 996 FEDN patients with schizophrenia (472 males/524 females) were recruited. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were applied.

History of Depression, Elevated Body Mass Index, and Waist-to-Height Ratio in Preadolescent Children
Conclusions
In this study, 9- and 10-year-old girls with a history of depression were more likely to have an elevated BMI and elevated waist-to-height ratio than girls with no history of depression. The Impact of Optimism and Pain Interference on Response to Online Behavioral Treatment for Mood and Anxiety Symptoms
This study aimed to explore a) if high pain interference has a negative effect on response to computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (cCBT) for anxiety and depression and b) whether high optimism can buffer the negative effects of pain interference on cCBT outcomes.
Methods
We performed a secondary analysis of data on 403 participants from the randomized controlled clinical trial “Online Treatment for Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Primary Care.” It examined the impact of cCBT, with and without access to an Internet support group, on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), mood, and anxiety symptoms.
