The Interoceptive Sensitivity and Attention Questionnaire: Evaluating Aspects of Self-Reported Interoception in Patients With Persistent Somatic Symptoms, Stress-Related Syndromes, and Healthy Controls
This study aimed to validate the Interoceptive Sensitivity and Attention Questionnaire (ISAQ), a 17-item self-report measure assessing sensitivity and attention to interoceptive signals.
Methods
In study 1, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed in a student convenience sample (n = 1868). In study 2, ISAQ data of a healthy sample (n = 144) and various patient groups experiencing stress-related syndromes (overstrain, n = 63; burnout, n = 37; panic disorder [PD]. n = 60) and/or persistent somatic symptoms in daily life (irritable bowel syndrome, n = 38; fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome,...

Predicting Alcohol Use From Genome-Wide Polygenic Scores, Environmental Factors, and Their Interactions in Young Adulthood
Conclusions
GPS and some environmental factors significantly predicted alcohol use in young adulthood, but we observed no GPS by environment interactions in our study. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Self-Perceived Psychological Stress and Risk of First Stroke in Treated Hypertensive Patients
Objective
We aimed to investigate the prospective association between self-perceived psychological stress and first stroke, and to examine possible effect modifiers among adults with hypertension.
Methods
A total of 20,688 hypertensive adults with information on self-perceived psychological stress at baseline were included from the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial. Participants were randomly assigned to a double-blind treatment of receiving a single tablet daily with either 10 mg enalapril and 0.8 mg folic acid or 10 mg enalapril alone. Follow-up visits occurred every 3 months after randomization. Psycholog...

The Relationship Between Objectively Measured Step Count, Clinical Characteristics, and Quality of Life Among Depressed Patients Recently Hospitalized With Systolic Heart Failure
Conclusions
Patients with HF and comorbid depression are generally sedentary after hospital discharge. Although mood symptoms and LVEF were unrelated to objective PA, patients with higher step counts self-reported better HRQoL.

The Influence of Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Anger Management on Endothelial Function in Patients With Recent Myocardial Infarction: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Conclusions
Anger management by cognitive behavioral techniques may improve endothelial function in post-MI patients with low anger control, but it remains unclear via which mechanism these effects occurred. Further studies with larger numbers of patients, assessments of changes in anger, improved comparability of preintervention FMD, and longer follow-up are warranted.

Psychological Symptom Trajectories and Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer Survival: A Joint Model Analysis
Conclusions
For the first time, joint model analyses test the interaction of a longitudinal trajectory of psychological symptoms, assessed from diagnosis to 24 months, and cancer survival. New data show the continuation of depressive and anxiety symptoms through treatment and thereafter. Immunotherapy and targeted therapies have dramatically improved survival for patients with advanced NSCLC; however, novel data suggest their benefit may be constrained by depressive symptoms. Ambulatory Heart Rate Variability Monitoring: Comparisons Between the Empatica E4 Wristband and Holter Electrocardiogram
Conclusions
Findings suggest that the low reliability of Empatica E4 as compared with the Holter monitor does not justify its use in ambulatory research for the measurement of HRV over time periods of 5 minutes or less. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Effect of a Biofeedback Intervention on Heart Rate Variability in Individuals With Panic Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusions
HRV-BF as a noninvasive and nonpharmacological treatment seems to be an important intervention option to improve reduced HRV and decrease panic symptoms in individuals with PD. Future studies are needed to establish whether these effects translate to reductions in the risk of cardiovascular disease in PD. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Interpersonal Emotion Dynamics in Couples With Somatic Symptom Disorder: Dyadic Coherence in Facial Temperature During Emotional Interactions
Conclusions
Inability to reduce emotional interdependence in sympathetic activity and subjective affect during a mutual conflict observed in SSD patient-couples seems to capture emotion co-dysregulation. Interventions should frame patients’ emotional experiences as embodied and social. Functional infrared thermal imaging confirms to be an ecological and reliable method for examining autonomic changes in interpersonal contexts.

A Comparison of Oral Health Outcomes of Self-Reported and Agency-Notified Child Maltreatment in a Population-Based Birth Cohort at 30-Year-Old Follow-Up
Conclusions
Child maltreatment is associated with adverse oral health consequences in adulthood and is thus a dental and wider public health issue. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Associations Between the Gut Microbiota and Internalizing Behaviors in Preschool Children
The objective of this study was to evaluate associations between the gut microbiota and internalizing and externalizing behaviors in preschool-aged children.
Methods
A community sample of 248 typically developing children (3–5 years of age) provided a stool sample for gut microbiota and SCFA analysis. Parents reported child internalizing and externalizing behaviors using the Child Behavior Checklist. Associations between child behaviors and gut microbiota measures were analyzed using Spearman correlations followed by an adjustment for multiple testing, with subanalysis conducted in children clinically “at riskâ€...

Association Between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Epigenetic Age Acceleration in a Sample of Twins
Conclusions
PTSD is associated with epigenetic age acceleration, primarily through unshared environmental mechanisms as opposed to genetic or familial factors. These results suggest that PTSD is related to systemic processes relevant to biological aging. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Stress-Related Inflammation and Social Withdrawal in Mothers of a Child With Cancer: A 1-Year Follow-Up Study
Conclusions
This study provides a first indication that chronic stress–related systemic inflammation may predict changes in social behavior that associate with stress recovery and slower increases in inflammation in the year after a major life stressor. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine)

Systemic Inflammation and Cognitive Decrements in Patients With Stage B Heart Failure
This study aimed to investigate the role of systemic inflammation in reduced cognitive functioning in patients with early-stage heart failure (HF) while determining associations with other cardiovascular risk factors.
Methods
Patients with stage B HF (n = 270; mean [standard deviation] age = 66.1 [10.1] years) were examined cross-sectionally for relationships among cardiovascular disease (CVD) and psychological risk factors, C-reactive protein (CRP), and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores. A subsample (n = 83) at high risk for stage C HF (B-type natriuretic peptide levels ≥65 pg/ml) were followed up for 1...
