Natural regulatory IgM ‐mediated autoimmune responses directed against malondialdehyde regulate oxidative and nitrosative pathways and coupled with IgM responses to nitroso‐adducts attenuate depressive and physiosomatic symptoms at the end of term pregnancy
ConclusionLowered levels of IgM responses to MDA during pregnancy are accompanied by a reduced regulation of nitro‐oxidative processes thereby explaining increased O&NS biomarkers in association with DPSS symptoms. IgM responses to NO‐adducts, which reflect nitrosylation as a consequence of increased NO production, regulate DPSS symptoms at the end of term, and are a trait marker of major depression. IgM responses to MDA are a key part of the compensatory anti‐inflammatory responses system (CIRS). (Source: Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

A randomized, 8 ‐week, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial of vortioxetine in Japanese adults with major depressive disorder, followed by a 52‐week open‐label extension trial
ConclusionsVortioxetine failed to meet significance versus placebo in the primary efficacy analysis at week 8 in the short term‐study. The extension trial indicated continued improvement of depressive symptoms from baseline of this study throughout the 52‐week treatment period. Vortioxetine treatment was safe and well tolerated in both studies.
Trial RegistrationThe short‐term study has the ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01355081; the open‐label, long‐term extension trial has the ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01395147 (Source: Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

Epigenetic mechanisms of major depression: targeting neuronal plasticity
ABSTRACT
Major depressive disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses as it affects more than 350 million people globally. Major depressive disorder is etiologically complex and disabling. Genetic factors play a role in the etiology of major depression. However, identical twin studies have shown high rates of discordance, indicating non‐genetic mechanisms as well. For instance, stressful life events increase the risk of depression. Environmental stressors also induce stable changes in gene expression within the brain that may lead to maladaptive neuronal plasticity in regions implicated in disease pathogenesis. E...

Responsibility of the doctor who prescribes serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain
Abstract
One of the serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), duloxetine, is indicated for the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain as it helps inhibit pain signals by activating descending pain inhibitory pathways.1 (Source: Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

Pyridoxamine, A Novel Treatment For Schizophrenia With Enhanced Carbonyl Stress
ConclusionHigh‐dose pyridoxamine add‐on treatment was, in part, effective for a subpopulation of schizophrenia patients with enhanced carbonyl stress. Further randomized, placebo controlled trials with careful monitoring will be required to validate the efficacy of high‐dose pyridoxamine for these patients. Achieving recovery in patients with schizophrenia through psychosocial interventions: A retrospective study
ConclusionOur results indicate that high rates of recovery can be achieved in patients treated with psychosocial interventions and suggest that rehabilitative programs targeting social cognition may further facilitate the process of recovery. If confirmed, these results may have relevant implications for daily clinical practice and service provision, allowing clinicians to develop and optimize specific rehabilitation programs in order to promote recovery. Neural basis of major depressive disorder: Beyond monoamine hypothesis
The monoamine hypothesis has been accepted as the most common hypothesis of major depressive disorder (MDD) for a long period because of its simplicity and understandability. Actually, most currently used antidepressants have been considered to act based on the monoamine hypothesis. However, an important problem of the monoamine hypothesis has been pointed out as follows: it fails to explain the latency of response to antidepressants. In addition, many patients with MDD have remained refractory to currently used antidepressants. Therefore, monoamine‐alternate hypotheses are required to explain the latency of response to ...

Effects of maternal separation and antidepressant drug on epigenetic regulation of the BDNF exon I promoter in the adult rat hippocampus
ConclusionThese findings indicate that MS induced epigenetic changes at the BDNF exon I promoter and these changes were prevented by antidepressant drug treatment during adulthood. (Source: Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)
