Influence of Al doping on the crystal structure, optical properties, and photodetecting performance of ZnO film
This study is motivated by the absence of detail reports concerning the orbital states inducing the optical bandgap (Eg) blueshift. Besides, the influences of Al on the possible modification of point defect and the photodetecting performance are highlighted to offer guidelines for better development in ZnO-based photodetector. It was found that the Al doping reduced the grain size. The doping increased the lattice parameters and slightly decreased the local-symmetry distortion at ZnO4. From the absorbance spectra, the doping increased Eg of ZnO film (3.28–3.36 eV), induced by the Burstein-Moss effect. From the density-f...

Effect of crystal field on the formation and diffusion of oxygen vacancy at anatase (101) surface and sub-surface
Publication date: Available online 22 January 2020Source: Progress in Natural Science: Materials InternationalAuthor(s): Wenjin Yin, Bo Wen, Qingxia Ge, Xiaolin Wei, Gilberto Teobaldi, Limin LiuAbstractThe intrinsic oxygen vacancy (Ov) in TiO2 is a vital topic of semiconductor materials. Here, we use the first-principles calculations to explore the formation and diffusion properties of Ov at anatase (101) slab, combined with the crystal filed theory. The calculated result shows that Ov at subsurface is not only more stable than that at surface, but also prefers to cluster together at subsurface. The stability of Ov at subs...

Beneficial clock-rolling cycles on the microstructure uniformity of {111} grains in tantalum sheets
Publication date: Available online 23 January 2020Source: Progress in Natural Science: Materials InternationalAuthor(s): Jialin Zhu, Shifeng Liu, Shuai Yang, Yahui Liu, Adrien ChapuisAbstractControlling the texture of tantalum sheets is of critical importance to fabricate good sputtering targets. In the present study two tantalum sheets were produced by clock rolling to 70% thickness reduction in 1 or 2 cycles. The results show that the stored energy and grain subdivision within the {111} grains {<111>//normal direction (ND)} after 1 cycle are significantly higher than those after 2 cycles, leading to fast recrystalliz...

A brief introduction to the selective laser melting of Ti6Al4V powders by supreme-speed plasma rotating electrode process
Publication date: Available online 21 January 2020Source: Progress in Natural Science: Materials InternationalAuthor(s): Yang Liu, Xiao-Hao Zhao, Yun-Jin Lai, Qing-Xiang Wang, Li-Ming Lei, Shu-Jin LiangAbstractIn the present study, Ti6Al4V spherical powders were prepared by supreme-speed plasma rotating electrode process and the particle size fit log-normal distribution. The average diameter of the powders was successfully determined by a model developed in this work, suggesting that the particle size distribution is mainly affected by the rotating speed. The log-normal distribution factor of the particle size distribution...

Optical sensing of explosives in wastewater by competitive complexation
Publication date: Available online 14 December 2019Source: Progress in Natural Science: Materials InternationalAuthor(s): Jiaxin Niu, Hong Chi, Pingxin Gao, Zongkuan Liu, Xiaohu Yin, Zhaolin GuAbstractA facile strategy for optical sensing of explosives with the assistance of 1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triamine (MEL) in aqueous solution is proposed. Upon exposure to MEL, the electron-sufficient amino group in MEL was prone to form complexes with electron-deficient nitro group in explosives. The interaction could be tuned by the amount of MEL to fully consumed nitro-contained explosives dissolved in wastewater, thus prevented the ...

Detecting MoS2 and MoSe2 with optical contrast simulation
Publication date: Available online 12 December 2019Source: Progress in Natural Science: Materials InternationalAuthor(s): Xiaohe Zhang, Hiroyo Kawai, Jing Yang, Kuan Eng Johnson GohAbstractOptical imaging is a promising method to identify and locate 2D materials efficiently and non-invasively. By putting a 2D material on a substrate, the nanolayer will add to an optical path and create a contrast to the case when the nanolayer is absent. This optical contrast imaging can be used to identify the 2D material and its number of layers. To make the optical imaging process in the laboratories an effective tool, Fresnel Law as a ...
