Management of high-grade papillary Ta or T1 bladder cancer after restaging transurethral resection: A retrospective study comparing Bacillus Calmette-Guerin therapy upfront versus a third resection
CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of intravesical BCG is compromised in case of residual tumour following TURB. The role of a 3TURB following a positive reTURB is not yet determined. This study has confirmed that residual tumor following reTURB is a negative predictive factor but could not demonstrate the value of a 3TURB compared to upfront BCG.PMID:37980231 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2023.10.002 (Source: Progres en Urologie)

Evaluation of the efficacy of sacral neuromodulation in the treatment of voiding dysfunction after endometriosis surgery
In conclusion, SNM offers promise as a treatment option for persistent VD after endometriosis surgery, warranting further investigation. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 4.PMID:37951811 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2023.10.003 (Source: Progres en Urologie)

Real-life after sacral nerve modulation implantation: Rate, reasons, and risk factors for mid-term follow-up discontinuation
CONCLUSION: The proportion of patients followed up after IPG implantation decreased steadily over the years, often related to a lack of therapeutic education.PMID:37949799 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2023.10.004 (Source: Progres en Urologie)

2022 Recommendations of the AFU Lithiasis Committee: Epidemiology, stone analysis and composition
Prog Urol. 2023 Nov;33(14):737-765. doi: 10.1016/j.purol.2023.08.013.ABSTRACTThe incidence of urinary lithiasis is rising steadily in industrialized countries, and its prevalence in the general population of France is estimated at 10%. Renal colic accounts for 1-2% of emergency department consultations. At a time when the new LASER stone fragmentation techniques available to urologists will lead to ever finer in situ pulverization of stones, the exact identification of the compounds that form the stone is essential for etiological diagnosis. Constitutional analysis by infrared spectrophotometry or X-ray diffraction is ther...

2022 Recommendations of the AFU Lithiasis Committee: Endoscopic description of renal papillae and stones
Prog Urol. 2023 Nov;33(14):766-781. doi: 10.1016/j.purol.2023.08.012.ABSTRACTEndoscopic observation is performed during treatments by flexible ureteroscopy to differentiate in situ between renal papillary abnormalities and stones based on their concordance with Daudon's morphological/composition descriptions adapted to endoscopy. These intraoperative visual analyses are now an integral part of the urinary stone disease diagnostic approach in addition to the morphological/structural and spectrophotometric analysis that remains the reference exam, but that loses information on the stone component representativeness due to th...

2022 Recommendations of the AFU Lithiasis Committee: Diagnosis
Prog Urol. 2023 Nov;33(14):782-790. doi: 10.1016/j.purol.2023.08.014.ABSTRACTThe choice of imaging modality is guided by the clinical presentation and the context (acute or not). Although ultrasound is safe (no radiation) and easily available, non-contrast-enhanced CT has become the gold standard in the diagnostic strategy for patients with acute flank pain because of its sensitivity (93.1%) and specificity (96.6%). It also allows determining the stone size, volume and density, visualizing their internal structure, and assessing their distance from the skin and the adjacent anatomy. All these parameters can influence the s...
