Training and development experiences of nursing associate trainees based in primary care across England: a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: This study raises important issues for trainee nursing associates, which may influence the recruitment and retention of the nursing associate workforce in primary care. Educators should consider adjustments to how the curriculum is delivered, including primary care skills and relevant assessments. Employers need to recognise the resource requirements for the programme, in relation to time and support, to avoid undue stress for trainees. Protected learning time should enable trainees to meet the required proficiencies.PMID:37114453 | DOI:10.1017/S1463423623000221 (Source: Primary Care)

Community participation in the health system: analyzing the implementation of community health committee policies in Kenya
CONCLUSION: Kenya's community health policy inadvertently created role conflict and competition for resources and recognition between community health workers involved in service delivery and those involved in overseeing community health services. Community health policies and related bills need to clearly define the roles of CHCs. County governments can promote the implementation of CHC policies by including CHCs in the agenda during the annual review of performance in the health sector.PMID:37114463 | DOI:10.1017/S1463423623000208 (Source: Primary Care)

Clinicians' experiences with cancer patients living longer with incurable cancer: a focus group study in the Netherlands
CONCLUSIONS: In the near future, PCPs will have an increasing number of patients living longer with incurable cancer. However, in a single PCP practice, the experience with incurable cancer patients remains low, partly because patients often prefer to stay in contact with their medical specialist. PCPs as well as medical specialists show concerns in how they can address this disease phase with the right care approach, including the appropriate label (e.g. palliative, chronic, etc.). They all preferred to be in contact early in the disease process, to be able to discuss and take care for the patients' physical and psycholog...

Screening for Bipolar I Disorder and the Rapid Mood Screener: Results of a Nationwide Health Care Provider Survey
Discussion: In our survey, the RMS was favorably evaluated by HCPs. A large percentage of respondents preferred the RMS over the MDQ and indicated that it would likely have a positive impact on clinicians' screening behavior.PMID:37115145 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.22m03322 (Source: Primary Care)

Collaborative Care Model Education Opportunities for Psychiatry Trainees: A Narrative Review
Conclusions and Relevance: Potential future studies should make use of innovative technologies (such as telehealth), should be process-oriented, and should focus more on team dynamics and opportunities for further collaboration with primary care practices within the CoCM framework.PMID:37115146 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.22nr03421 (Source: Primary Care)

Cyberchondria Severity and Quality of Life Among Lebanese Adults: The Moderating Effect of Emotions
Conclusions: Exposure to copious amounts of information, whether from verifiable sources or not, can instigate anxious symptoms in individuals who lack adaptive emotion regulation ability. Further studies are needed to identify factors related to health crisis response and their moderators, which can be useful to better understand the incidence and development of anxiety and allow health professionals to develop and implement preventive and therapeutic interventions.PMID:37115149 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.22m03252 (Source: Primary Care)

Psychopathology and Pattern of Remission of Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder
Conclusions: Cannabis-induced psychosis in the Indian setting presents with predominant positive symptoms and minimal affective symptoms. Allergic Rhinitis
Prim Care. 2023 Jun;50(2):159-178. doi: 10.1016/j.pop.2023.01.003. Epub 2023 Mar 8.ABSTRACTAllergic rhinitis is a common ailment in primary and acute care settings. Diagnosis is clinical, by means of history and physical examination. Referral to an allergist is considered when symptoms are difficult to manage and/or confirmation by means of further testing is desired. Management of allergic rhinitis should not be considered trivial, as multiple secondary effects can present as the course progresses. Several treatment modalities exist but should begin with glucocorticoid nasal sprays and systemic second- or third-generation...

Management of Chronic Asthma in Adults
Prim Care. 2023 Jun;50(2):179-190. doi: 10.1016/j.pop.2023.01.001. Epub 2023 Mar 25.ABSTRACTAsthma is characterized by chronic inflammation and respiratory symptoms such as wheezing and coughing. In the United States, it affects 25 million people annually. Chronic smokers, poor adherence to medications, incorrect use of inhalers, and overall poor asthma control are known risk factors that lead to poorly controlled chronic asthmatics. Although asthma is traditionally categorized by severity, treatment by primary care providers is guided by the Global Initiative for Asthma or the National Asthma Education and Prevention Prog...
