The effect of folic acid throughout pregnancy among pregnant women at high risk of pre-eclampsia: a randomized clinical trial
ConclusionThis study has provided evidence that a high dosage of FA supplement from 3 months before pregnancy until the entire pregnancy reduces the recurrent pre-eclampsia. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Differences in DNA methylation of insulin-like growth factor 2 and cadherin 13 in patients with preeclampsia
ConclusionDifferences in DNA methylation were found in placental tissue, umbilical cord white blood cells and HUVEC of patients with early onset preeclampsia compared to (un)complicated controls, but not in patients with late-onset preeclampsia. The genes showing the largest differential methylation encode insulin-like growth factor 2 binding protein and receptor and cadherin 13. Severe proteinuria as a parameter of worse perinatal/neonatal outcomes in women with preeclampsia
ConclusionsA higher P/C ratio at delivery in women with preeclampsia might cause EPB and CSC. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Identifying Hypertension in Pregnancy using Electronic Medical Records: The importance of Blood Pressure Values
ConclusionIncorporating EMR BP identified many pregnant women with hypertension who would have been missed by using diagnosis codes alone. Future studies should seek to incorporate BP to study treatment and outcomes of hypertension in pregnancy. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

The role of follistatin and granulocyte-colony stimulating factor in hiv-associated pre-eclampsia
This study demonstrated a downregulation of FS and G-CSF expression in PE, compared to normotensive pregnancies. This finding may be attributed to oxidative stress and its immunoregulatory role in the hyperinflammatory milieu of PE. HIV status had no effect on both analytes, albeit upregulated due to immune reconstitution emanating from highly active antiretroviral therapy. Our novel findings suggest that FS and G-CSF may have a potential predictor test value in early pregnancy, hence work on this is ongoing. Expression profiles of candidate microRNAs in the peripheral blood leukocytes of patients with early- and late-onset preeclampsia versus normal pregnancies
ConclusionsIncreased miR-518b expression levels were found to be associated with EOPE and LOPE. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Investigating the diagnostic capacity of uric acid in the occurrence of preeclampsia
ConclusionThe UA concentration in preeclamptic pregnancies is significantly increased compared to normal pregnancies and the level of UA may have diagnostic ability in the occurrence of preeclampsia. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Correlation of biological parameters with placental parameters and pregnancy outcomes in pre-eclamptic women
ConclusionsThere is no correlation between biological parameters and placental lesions in pre-eclamptic women. Yet, low PLR at delivery is correlated with low placental and birth weights. Moreover, low first trimester PlGF is correlated with long time from pre-eclampsia diagnosis to delivery. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Central hemodynamics are associated with fetal outcomes in pregnancies of advanced maternal age
ConclusionsHemodynamic alterations consistent with a low output, high resistance cardiovascular circuit were associated with lower birthweight in AMA, but not in control pregnancies. (Source: Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Womens Cardiovascular Health)

Meta-analysis of gene expression profiles in preeclampsia
ConclusionsThis work, combining rigorous methods of meta-analysis and the use of modern bioinformatics tools, proposes the existence of novel, overlooked so far, biochemical pathways and mechanisms to contribute to preeclampsia development such as carbohydrate, aminoacids and pyrimidine metabolism. Our findings pave the way for further investigation of the above pathways in experimental efforts to decipher the orchestrating mechanisms for preeclampsia development. Plasma ceramide is increased and associated with proteinuria in women with pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome
ConclusionPlasma but not placental ceramide content is increased in women with pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. The strong positive correlation with proteinuria and the inverse correlation with gestational age at delivery indicate that excess plasma ceramide may contribute to the pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia and HELLP. Evaluation of the clinical impact of the revised ISSHP and ACOG definitions on preeclampsia
DiscussionImplementation of the ISSHP 2018/ACOG 2013 definitions cause a shift from gestational hypertension and chronic hypertension towards (superimposed) preeclampsia (relative increase 10%/2%). These increases are caused by inclusion of non-proteinuric cases. More research is necessary into the course and prognosis of especially non-proteinuric preeclampsia cases. Associations of childhood adiposity and changes in adiposity status from childhood to adulthood with pregnancy hypertension
Conclusion(s)Childhood adiposity was associated with increased risk of pregnancy hypertension, with the association of childhood abdominal obesity independent of adult abdominal obesity. Women who were persistently overweight/obese or abdominally obese since childhood had the highest risk of pregnancy hypertension.
