An unusually severe case of bullosis diabeticorum with marked morbidity ultimately resulting in bilateral trans ‐tibial amputation
We report a case of a 49‐year‐old man with type 1 diabetes who presented with recurrent episodes of bullosis diabeticorum, complicated by infection and ultimately resulting in bilateral major amputations.
This case highlights the fact that bullosis diabeticorum may not follow an uncomplicated self‐limiting course and also the need for early recognition and prompt treatment of infection. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons. (Source: Practical Diabetes)

Influences of social issues on type 1 diabetes self ‐management: are we doing enough?
In conclusion, including a systematic assessment of social parameters in health care records might improve the ability of clinicians and the health system to tackle social issues early. The association between diabetes and cardiovascular disease is now well accepted. For the Arnold Bloom lecture 2016 I described the great improvements in the management of cardiovascular disease that have occurred in the last 20 years in people with diabetes.

Insulin neuritis in pregnancy
We describe a previously unreported association of insulin neuritis occurring in early pregnancy in two Caucasian women with type 1 diabetes.
A 28 year old with diabetes for three years presented at seven weeks gestation with acute onset of severe pain and paraesthesia in both feet, worse at night. Pre‐conception HbA1c was 132 mmol/mol and 53 mmol/mol at nine weeks gestation. The pain was managed with amitriptyline and tramadol. Her symptoms resolved by 20 weeks. Coeliac disease screening in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus: is it time for a new approach?

NICE guidelines recommend annual screening for autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), but only one initial screen for coeliac disease (CD) at T1DM diagnosis and thereafter if symptomatic. Prescribing of oral antihyperglycaemic agents in gestational diabetes by the antenatal diabetes team within the UK: an observational survey
Abstract
The incidence of gestational diabetes (GDM) continues to rise and requires management by a multidisciplinary diabetes antenatal team. Multiple national and international guidelines exist on the management of hyperglycaemia in pregnancy which are not concordant and may lead to confusion in clinical practice.
