Safety and efficacy results of percutaneous renal stent implantation in patients with acute coronary syndrome with ectatic and aneurysmatic coronary arteries
CONCLUSION: Renal stents used during PCI in patients with acute coronary syndrome with ectatic/aneurysmatic coronary arteries have similar efficacy, and mid-term follow-up results those noted for BMCS. These findings support that renal stents can be used in ectatic and aneurysmatic coronary arteries when necessary.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study has been registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05410678).PMID:38299468 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2313447 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)

Validation of the 35-mm rule in traumatic pneumothorax in an Asian population
CONCLUSION: Most patients with traumatic PTX of ≤35 mm on CT had undergone successful 4-h observation without thoracostomy. Additionally, PTX of >35 mm was an independent risk factor for observation failure. Considering the lower optimal cutoff value and high failure rates observed in this study, the current guidelines need modifications.PMID:38294228 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2313449 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)

Management of disease-related malnutrition: a real-world experience with a novel concentrated high-protein energy-dense oral nutritional supplement
CONCLUSION: The use of this novel high-protein energy-dense formula with high-quality protein source (≥2.1 kcal/mL; 32 g protein/200 mL; 60% whey protein) overcome common practical challenges in the medical nutrition therapy of patients with DRM, either because these patients require a highly concentrated formulation to meet nutritional requirements due to loss of appetite, lack of interest in food, and high caloric-protein needs due to disease, and a large quantity and quality of protein to optimize muscle recovery due to sarcopenia, common in patients with moderate-severe malnutrition.PMID:38251982 | DOI:10.1080/003254...

Correlation of morning dry mouth with clinical features of OSA in a community population: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Morning dry mouth is associated with increased OSA risk and its clinical signs, suggesting its potential as an OSA screening symptom.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study has been registered at www.ClinicalTrials.gov (registration identifier: NCT03532893) on 21 May 2018.PMID:38197225 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2303972 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)

Evaluation of immature granulocyte percentage and count in pediatric nephrotic syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: It is probable that a high level of immature granulocyte count has a positive correlation for NS relapse in pediatric patients. The IG % and IG# can be used together as biomarkers of inflammation in pediatric NS relapse.PMID:38197239 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2303973 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)

Use of autologous iliac crest graft and free anterolateral femoral skin flap in diabetic foot ulcers: a case report
CONCLUSION: There is a dearth of reports pertaining to treatment of diabetic foot in patients with midfoot bone and soft tissue loss. In this report, we present an effective method that we used to reconstruct the loss of midfoot in a patient with diabetic foot, illustrating a successful therapeutic strategy for saving limbs in this complex medical condition.PMID:38198583 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2303982 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)

Levels and drivers of burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic among a diverse group of resident physicians
CONCLUSION: Perceived effects of the COVID-19 pandemic upon residents' educational experience was mixed: reduced clinical volume had a negative impact, while increased time for study was perceived favorably. These findings suggest potential strategies and targets to mitigate the stress and burnout of a future crisis, whether large or small, among surgical and non-surgical trainees.PMID:38193442 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2024.2303974 (Source: Postgraduate Medicine)
