High mitotic index has no prognostic significance in mixed tumor of the vagina
Pol J Pathol. 2021;72(4):353-355. doi: 10.5114/pjp.2021.114183.ABSTRACTMixed tumor of the vagina is a benign neoplasm usually developing in the posterior and distal vaginal wall, close to the hymen, with almost all reported cases exhibiting no or little cellular pleomorphism and rare mitotic activity. The present paper presents a case of a 30 year-old pregnant patient also known to have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in which a mixed tumor of the vagina was identified and completely surgically removed. Microscopic examination revealed a predominant spindle cell component characterized by high mitotic activity...

Endomyocardial biopsy: a 21st century diagnostic tool
Pol J Pathol. 2021;72(4):356-357. doi: 10.5114/pjp.2021.114184.ABSTRACTThe question of the utility of Endomyocardial Biopsy (EMB) often and recurrently raises. It is claimed that the image techniques provide identical results without the risks of an invasive procedure. It is a fact that the impressive technico-scientific development of cardiovascular imagological methodologies covers a broad spectrum of diagnosis. It is also a fact that endomyocardial biopsy is not completely risk-free. Yet, when performed by experienced professionals in reference centres, endomyocardial biopsies my disclose a final unexpected nosologic en...

Primary cardiac atrial sarcomas. Report of two histologically different cases and review of the literature
We report two patients with primary cardiac atrial sarcomas: a case report of a 34-year old woman with intimal sarcoma of the left atrium and a case report of a 30-year old man with synovial sarcoma of the right atrium. Clinicopathological and differential diagnosis with a discussion regarding the role of molecular studies is presented.PMID:35308009 | DOI:10.5114/pjp.2021.114185 (Source: Polish Journal of Pathology)

Elevated expression of IGFL1 indicates unfavorable prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma through promotion of cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis
This study aimed to determine the potential role of insulin growth factor-like family member 1 (IGFL1) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). We analyzed the expression of IGFL1 using TIMER, UALCAN, and GEPIA. The association of IGFL1 expression with symptoms and overall survival (OS) in LUAD patients was evaluated using a tissue microarray (TMA). Moreover, A549 and H1299 cells with selective IGFL1 knockdown were used to observe their proliferation and apoptosis in vitro. From the TIMER, UALCAN and GEPIA databases, we found that IGFL1 was upregulated in LUAD (p < 0.001). The level of promoter methylation in IGFL1 was significan...

Prognostic importance of molecular-like classification in gastroesophageal junction tumors (Izmir Oncology Group [IZOG] study)
This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological and prognostic importance of the classification using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) to identify potential surrogate markers of molecular changes in gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinomas. A total of 52 GEJ adenocarcinomas were divided into five groups using IHC with MLH-1, E-cadherin, p53 and CISH with EBER: 1) microsatellite unstable (MSI: negative with MLH-1), 2) genomically stable tumors (GS: positive with p53), 3) chromosomally unstable tumors (CUN: negative with e-cadherin), 4) EBV+ tumors (EBV+: positive with EB...
