Amantadine-Induced Corneal Edema in a Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Patient: A Case Report
Publication date: October 2018Source: PM&R, Volume 10, Issue 10Author(s): Maria Beran, Britta Okyere, Joshua VovaAbstractAmantadine is commonly prescribed as a neurostimulant in patients with brain injuries. This is a case of a 14-year-old male with a history of brain tumor that developed corneal edema after initiation of amantadine, a rare but documented side effect of this medication. After discontinuation of amantadine, the corneal edema resolved within two months, but endothelial cells density remained low.Level of EvidenceV (Source: PMandR)

Sonographic Changes After Ultrasound-Guided Release of the Transverse Carpal Ligament: A Case Report
Publication date: October 2018Source: PM&R, Volume 10, Issue 10Author(s): Erek W. Latzka, P. Troy Henning, Adam M. PourchoAbstractCarpal tunnel syndrome is the most common entrapment neuropathy, resulting in 500,000 carpal tunnel release (CTR) surgeries and a total cost of more than 2 billion dollars annually in the United States. Although initially performed via a large (3-5 cm) palmar incision, CTR techniques have continually evolved to reduce incision size, recovery times, postoperative pain, and improve cosmesis and clinical outcomes. More recently, multiple authors have reported excellent results after ultrasound-guid...

Safety, Tolerability, and Effectiveness of Dextromethorphan/Quinidine for Pseudobulbar Affect Among Study Participants With Traumatic Brain Injury: Results From the PRISM-II Open Label Study
ConclusionsDM/Q was well tolerated, and it significantly reduced PBA episodes in study participants with TBI. Changes in CNS-LS and PBA episode count were similar to changes with DM/Q in phase 3 trials.Level of EvidenceII (Source: PMandR)

Effect on Passive Range of Motion and Functional Correlates After a Long-Term Lower Limb Self-Stretch Program in Patients With Chronic Spastic Paresis
ConclusionTherapists should consider prescribing and monitoring a long-term lower limb self-stretch program using GSC, as this may increase muscle extensibility in adult-onset chronic paresis.Level of EvidenceIII (Source: PMandR)

Effect of Rear Wheel Suspension on Tilt-in-Space Wheelchair Shock and Vibration Attenuation
ConclusionsThe results indicate that rigid manual tilt-in-space wheelchairs respond to rough surfaces in a similar fashion to previously studied rigid wheelchairs. Furthermore, the aftermarket suspension system reduces some aspects of shock and vibration exposure, also consistent with previously studied suspension systems.Level of EvidenceNA (Source: PMandR)

Stenosis and Neurologic Level Discrepancies in Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy
ConclusionsLMN involvement in CSM is usually not concordant with the structural lesion. For accurate diagnosis and treatment, physicians should recognize that myotomal involvement in CSM is often due to canal stenosis one to 4 levels above the lesion.Level of EvidenceIII (Source: PMandR)
