Interpregnancy interval and adverse pregnancy outcomes among pregnancies following miscarriages or induced abortions in Norway (2008 –2016): A cohort study
by Gizachew A. Tessema, Siri E. H åberg, Gavin Pereira, Annette K. Regan, Jennifer Dunne, Maria C. Magnus BackgroundThe World Health Organization recommends to wait at least 6 months after miscarriage and induced abortion before becoming pregnant again to avoid complications in the next pregnancy, although the evidence-based underlying this recommendation is scarce. We aimed to investigate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes —preterm birth (PTB), spontaneous PTB, small for gestational age (SGA) birth, large for gestational age (LGA) birth, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)—by interpregnancy inte...

Scaling-up a pharmacist-led information technology intervention (PINCER) to reduce hazardous prescribing in general practices: Multiple interrupted time series study
ConclusionsThe PINCER intervention, when rolled out at scale in routine clinical practice, was associated with a reduction in hazardous prescribing by 17% and 15% at 6 and 12 months postintervention. The greatest reductions in hazardous prescribing were for indicators associated with risk of GI bleeding. These findings support the wider national rollout of PINCER in England. The association between multimorbidity and mobility disability-free life expectancy in adults aged 85 years and over: A modelling study in the Newcastle 85+ cohort
by Laurie E. Davies, Stewart W. Mercer, Katie Brittain, Carol Jagger, Louise Robinson, Andrew Kingston BackgroundMobility disability is predictive of further functional decline and can itself compromise older people ’s capacity (and preference) to live independently. The world’s population is also ageing, and multimorbidity is the norm in those aged ≥85. What is unclear in this age group, is the influence of multimorbidity on (a) transitions in mobility disability and (b) mobility disability-free life exp ectancy (mobDFLE). Methods and findingsUsing multistate modelling in an inception cohort of 714 85-year-olds foll...

Evaluation of physical activity calorie equivalent (PACE) labels ’ impact on energy purchased in cafeterias: A stepped-wedge randomised controlled trial
ConclusionOverall, the evidence was consistent with PACE labels not changing energy purchased in worksite cafeterias. There was considerable variation in effects between cafeterias, suggesting important unmeasured moderators. Trial registrationThe study was prospectively registered on ISRCTN (date: 30.03.21; ISRCTN31315776). (Source: PLoS Medicine)

COVID-19 deaths in children and young people in England, March 2020 to December 2021: An active prospective national surveillance study
by Marta Bertran, Zahin Amin-Chowdhury, Hannah G. Davies, Hester Allen, Tom Clare, Chloe Davison, Mary Sinnathamby, Giulia Seghezzo, Meaghan Kall, Hannah Williams, Nick Gent, Mary E. Ramsay, Shamez N. Ladhani, Godwin Oligbu BackgroundCoronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths are rare in children and young people (CYP). The high rates of asymptomatic and mild infections complicate assessment of cause of death in CYP. We assessed the cause of death in all CYP with a positive Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) test since the start of the pandemic in England. The rapidly evolving monkeypox epidemic: A call to action to leave no one behind
by Steffanie A. Strathdee, Davey M. Smith, Megan Halbrook, Placide Mbala-Kingebeni, Shira Abeles, Francesca Torriani, Anne Rimoin Author summary: Within 5 months, an emerging human monkeypox virus (MPXV) pandemic has caused>65,000 cases, leading the World Health Organization to declare it a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). Applying former United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ’s idiom, we reflect upon the “known knowns,” “known unknowns,” and “unknown unknowns” to improve prevention and treatment for this and future pandemics. Risk of cervical precancer among HPV –negative women in the Netherlands and its association with previous HPV and cytology results: A follow-up analysis of a randomized screening study
by Federica Inturrisi, Lawrence Rozendaal, Nienke J. Veldhuijzen, Dani ëlle A. M. Heideman, Chris J. L. M. Meijer, Johannes Berkhof BackgroundHuman papillomavirus (HPV)-based screening programs still use one-size-fits-all protocols but efficiency and efficacy of programs may be improved by stratifying women based on previous screening results. Methods and findingsWe studied the association between cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 or cancer (CIN3+) and previous screening results in the Population-Based Screening Study Amsterdam (POBASCAM) trial, performed in the Netherlands in the setting of regular screening, wh...

Immunogenicity and reactogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in people living with HIV in the Netherlands: A nationwide prospective cohort study
ConclusionsAfter vaccination with BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273, anti-spike SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels were reduced in PLWH compared to HIV-negative controls. To reach and maintain the same serological responses as HIV-negative controls, additional vaccinations are probably required. Effectiveness of integrated care for older adults with depression and hypertension in rural China: A cluster randomized controlled trial
by Shulin Chen, Yeates Conwell, Jiang Xue, Lydia Li, Tingjie Zhao, Wan Tang, Hillary Bogner, Hengjin Dong BackgroundEffectiveness of integrated care management for common, comorbid physical and mental disorders has been insufficiently examined in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We tested hypotheses that older adults treated in rural Chinese primary care clinics with integrated care management of comorbid depression and hypertension (HTN) would show greater improvements in depression symptom severity and HTN control than those who received usual care. Methods and findingsThe study, registered with ClinicalTrials.g...
