Multidetector-Row Computed Tomographic Analysis of the Superficial Palmar Branch of Radial Artery Perforator Flaps
Conclusions: All patients had at least one reliable SPBRA perforator in the radial volar wrist. The authors’ results suggest that plastic surgeons can easily and safely plan the SPBRA flap design, potentially without preoperative perforator mapping. (Source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Comparison of Cromolyn Sodium, Montelukast, and Zafirlukast Prophylaxis for Capsular Contracture
This study investigated the effects of cromolyn sodium, montelukast, and zafirlukast on capsular contracture in a rat model. Methods: Thirty female Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into five groups: control, sham, cromolyn sodium, montelukast, and zafirlukast. Intraperitoneal injections were administered daily to the sham (1 ml per day), cromolyn sodium (10 mg/kg per day), montelukast (10 mg/kg per day), and zafirlukast (1.25 mg/kg per day) groups 1 month before surgery. Miniature breast implants were then placed on the backs of the rats in each group. Injections were continued for the next 3 months. The rat...

In Vivo Analysis of the Superficial and Deep Fascia
This study is the first to quantify the superficial fascia throughout the human body in vivo. Methods: Ultrasound was used to analyze the superficial and deep fascia of 10 volunteers at 73 points on 11 body regions, including the upper and lower trunk and limbs. Number, thickness and percentage of superficial fascia layers, and deep fascia and dermis thickness, were measured at each point. Results: Seven hundred thirty ultrasound images were analyzed. Body regions varied markedly in terms of subcutaneous variables. Posterior chest had the thickest deep fascia and dermis and the highest average superficial fas...

Dermal Autoaugmentation Mastopexy: Maintaining Maximal Volume in Primary Breast Lift Surgery and Combined with Explantation
Summary: Mastopexy is performed to lift, reshape, and restore tone to the ptotic breast. Dermal autoaugmentation mastopexy maintains the maximal existing tissue volume because an average of only 11.3 g is removed per side. This potentially avoids the need for prosthetic implants in patients concerned about breast implant issues. The procedure uses flexible freehand shaping and is also an ideal mastopexy when prosthetic implants are removed because it requires minimal undermining and preserves blood flow to the tissues. Long-term results are extremely stable without revision, even in cases of dramatic laxity. CLINICA...

Correlation between Capsular Contracture Rates and Access Incision Location in Vertical Augmentation Mastopexy
Conclusion: Surgeons should take into consideration the capsular contracture rates associated with access incision location when planning or performing vertical augmentation mastopexy. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, III. (Source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Aging of the Nose: A Quantitative Analysis of Nasal Soft Tissue and Bone on Computed Tomography
Conclusion: These results suggest that the aging process leads to drooping of the nasal tip, thickened nasal skin and soft tissue, and resorption of the nasal bone, providing a reference for rhinoplasty in older patients. (Source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

Preliminary Application of a Novel Autologous Scrotal Dartos Flap Method for Enlargement of Penile Girth in Men with Small Penis Syndrome
Conclusions: This novel autologous flap-turning procedure performed better than the majority of previously published penile girth enlargement methods and was accompanied by only slight and acceptable adverse events. The scrotal dartos flap method appears to be a viable method for the penile girth enlargement treatment of small penis syndrome. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, IV. Efficacy and Safety of Botulinum Toxin Type A in the Treatment of Benign Parotid Hypertrophy: A Prospective Study
Background: Benign parotid hypertrophy makes the earlobe area appear swollen and weakens the lateral facial contour and aesthetics. Efficacious treatment for benign parotid hypertrophy is not available. The authors evaluated the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin type A for benign parotid hypertrophy treatment. Methods: Thirty-six participants with benign parotid hypertrophy were enrolled and treated with botulinum toxin type A injection. After 6 months of follow-up, changes in the thickness and length of the superficial lobe of the parotid gland were assessed. Analyses of patient subgroups and image analyse...

The Asian Eye: Anthropometric Eye Measurements of Attractiveness in Young East Asian Women
Background: Because of the high volume of Asian eyelid operations performed and the complexity of the Asian eye, there is a need to define exactly what anthropometric measurements determine attractiveness. Methods: Eye photographs of young East Asian women were collected from publicly available sources online. Photographs were evaluated on a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5 for attractiveness. Thirty-seven anthropometric measurements were collected using ImageJ from the most attractive and least attractive eyes to discover which features play the most important role in attractiveness. Results: A total of ...

Zygomatic Implants through a Face-Lift Approach: Analysis of 30 Years’ Experience
Conclusions: The application of cheek implants proved to be a great tool for midfacial volume rejuvenation with or without associated fat grafting. This conclusion was drawn from the answers reported in the questionnaires completed by the two examiners. The main challenge in this operation was the choice of the type, shape, and size of the implant. The preauricular approach should be given preference during this procedure because, compared to the other approaches, it is easier, faster, and more comfortable for both the patient and the surgeon. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic, IV. (Source: Plasti...

Breast Implant–Associated Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma in Brazil: What Are We Missing?
Conclusions: Compared with other populations, these initial observations suggest that awareness of the disease by the local breast surgery community remains low and that a number of cases may remain undiagnosed. Lack of preoperative diagnostic testing compromises disease treatment, oncologic outcomes, and both short- and long-term surveillance. (Source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

BREAST-Q Breast-Conserving Therapy Module: Normative Data from a Dutch Sample of 9059 Women
Background: BREAST-Q, a patient-reported outcome measure for cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, is widely used in both clinical research and practice. The aim of this study was to acquire normative data of BREAST-Q’s Breast-Conserving Therapy Module from a Dutch population sample and to compare it with existing normative BREAST-Q values. Methods: Flyers with QR codes, WhatsApp, and one academic center’s Facebook and LinkedIn platforms were used to direct participants to self-complete an online version of four domains of the preoperative BREAST-Q Breast-Conserving Therapy Module. BREAST-Q domain scor...
