Effectiveness of compassion ‐focused therapy for self‐criticism in patients with personality disorders: a multiple baseline case series study
ConclusionsThis study seems to provide preliminary evidence for the effectiveness of 12-week CFT for self-critical beliefs in patients with PDs compared to TAU. CFT for self-criticism in PDs may complement treatment offerings and warrant further research. (Source: Personality and Mental Health)

Development and psychometric evaluation of the Personality Disorder Severity ICD ‐11 (PDS‐ICD‐11) Clinician‐Rating Form
AbstractNo clinician-rating tool has formally been developed to assess the ICD-11 model of personality disorder (PD) severity. We therefore developed and evaluated the 14-item personality disorder Severity ICD-11 (PDS-ICD-11) Clinician-Rating Form. A combined sample of 195 patients was rated by mental health professionals or clinical research assistants in New Zealand using the PDS-ICD-11 Clinician-Rating Form. Responses were subjected to item-response theory analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. In a subsample, we examined interrater reliability and convergence with self- and informant-reported measures of personalit...

Effects of two treatments on interpersonal, affective, and lifestyle features of psychopathy and emotion dysregulation
This study investigated the relative efficacy of Mentalization-based therapy (MBT) and United Protocol (UP) in reducing symptoms of psychopathy and emotion dysregulation in a sample of Iranian community residents with concurrent diagnoses of antisocial and borderline personality disorders (PDs). Interpersonal, affective, and lifestyle features of psychopathy were measured post-treatment and at 6-, 12-, 18-, 24-, and 36-months follow-up using the 13-item version of the Psychopathy Revised-Checklist (PCL-R), which excluded, by design, criminal history features. Emotion dysregulation was measured using the Deficits in Emotion...

Personality disorders in older adults: Differences in self ‐informant ratings
We examined self-informant agreement in PD screening among older adults ( ≥60 years) using the Gerontological Personality disorders Scale (GPS). Potential differences such as who reports more personality pathology on a PD screener (i.e., GPS), item accessibility and the effect of relational aspects were studied as well. Data of 326 older adult-informant dyads, of whic h the older adults were sampled from five general practices in the Netherlands, were used. Results indicate that self-informant agreement ranged fromr = 0.26–0.73, with lower concordance on the GPS-subscale measuring intrapersonal aspects of persona...

Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD) self ‐report: Factor structure and validation in a community sample of Belgian youth
AbstractThe current study examined the psychometric properties of the Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD) in a sample of school-attending adolescent Belgian youth (N = 599;M age  = 16.51 years,SD = 1.27). Given the recent interest in the PSCD-Short Version (PSCD-SV), this study focused on the 13-item variant of the PSCD. Study findings showed that the PSCD-SV had a hierarchical four-factor structure including the components of grandiose-manipulative (GM), callous-unemotional (CU), darin g-impulsive (DI), and conduct disorder (CD). These interrelated factors were found to be internally consistent. ...

Interventions to improve the sleep quality of adults with personality disorder: A systematic review
AbstractPoor quality sleep is common for people who have a diagnosis of personality disorder (PD). Core cognitive and behavioral features of PD may cause and perpetuate poor sleep, but to date, no review has collated the evidence on the efficacy of interventions to improve sleep quality for people with PD. Structured searches for interventional studies among adults with PD and reporting validated measures of sleep quality were conducted up to November 2022 in multiple databases. Single-case reports were excluded. Study quality was assessed with standardized risk of bias tools. Unreported data was sought systematically from...

Comparison of childhood trauma between depressive disorders and personality disorders
In conclusion, the presence of personality disorder was associated with greater subjective reporting of childhood trauma compared with those with MDD, and further research is required to explore the differences in objective experience of childhood trauma between the diagnoses using objective measures. Do self and interpersonal dysfunction cross ‐sectionally mediate the association between adverse childhood experiences and personality pathology?
AbstractTwo primary limitations of research on the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and personality disorder (PD) are (1) failure to consider mechanisms of association and (2) inconsistent results due, in part, to inconsistent approaches to quantifying ACE exposure. The current study will address these limitations by examining the cross-sectional mediating role of self- and interpersonal dysfunction on the association between ACE and three PDs (antisocial, schizotypal, and borderline) using three quantifications of ACE exposure (cumulative, individual, and unique risk). Participants were 149 current...

Attitudes of psychiatry trainees towards patients with borderline personality disorder: Does the stigma begin during training?
This study identifies a need to understand why trainees closer to qualifying as psychiatrists have increased stigma towards patients with BPD. Improved education and training surrounding patients with BPD is warranted to reduce negative stigma and improve clinical outcomes. (Source: Personality and Mental Health)

The Clinical Interview for Borderline Personality Disorder for Adolescents (CI ‐BOR‐A): Development, acceptability and expert panel evaluation
AbstractBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe mental disorder with marked impulsivity, instability, emotional dysregulation and self-harm. These features tend to develop over time and can be identified in adolescence. Early diagnosis is the first step to prevent the development of these features to a personality disorder. The purpose of this study was to develop the Clinical Interview for BPD for Adolescents (CI-BOR-A), a new instrument based on a sound clinical interview for BPD in youth (CI-BPD). We tested its acceptability with 43 adolescents and its content validity with the quantitative and qualitative eva...

Disinhibition domain and facets uniquely predict changes in depressive symptoms and psychosocial functioning
This study aimed to understand the role of disinhibition (low conscientiousness) —in conjunction with the other major personality traits of negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism, and psychoticism—in predicting changes in depressive symptoms and psychosocial functioning. Both the disinhibition trait domain and its primary facets (i.e., irresponsibility, impulsivity, an d distractibility) were examined. In a large sample (Time 1 N = 605, Time 2 N = 497) of psychiatric outpatients and high-risk community residents, personality traits, depressive symptoms (both self-reported and interviewer-rated), and p...
