Prenatal weight and regional body composition trajectories and neonatal body composition: The NICHD Foetal Growth Studies
ConclusionsSix integrated trajectory patterns of prenatal weight, subcutaneous adipose tissue and circumferences were observed that were minimally associated with neonatal body composition, suggesting a stronger influence of prepregnancy BMI. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Early life factors and hippocampal functional connectivity in children with overweight/obesity
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that birth weight at birth and breastfeeding are associated with hippocampal connectivity in children with overweight/obesity. Despite this, how the results relate to academic performance remains a matter of speculation. Our findings suggest that clinicians should recognize the importance early life factors for potentially avoiding consequences on offspring's brain development. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Maternal BMI in the preconception period, and association with child zBMI growth rates
ConclusionsMaternal preconception BMI was associated with growth rate and mean zBMI in early childhood. The preconception period may be an important target for health interventions to promote healthy child growth rate and weight outcomes. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

The long ‐term effects of primary school‐based obesity prevention interventions in children: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
DiscussionNo clear evidence regarding long-term effects of primary school-based interventions on obesity-related outcomes was found. Recommendations for further research and policy are discussed.Prospero registration ID: CRD42021240446. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Maternal insulin resistance and maternal β‐cell function during pregnancy for offspring overweight before 2 years of age among women with gestational diabetes
ConclusionsBoth maternal increased insulin resistance and decreased β-cell function at diagnosis of GDM were associated with elevated risk of offspring overweight in early childhood among Chinese women with GDM. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Trends in U.S. adolescent physical activity and obesity: A 20 ‐year age‐period‐cohort analysis
ConclusionsThe reversal of obesity trends by age with little change in physical activity over the study period suggests other lifestyle factors have changed over the study period to increase the prevalence of obesity in older adolescents. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Trends in school ‐neighbourhood inequalities and youth obesity: Repeated cross‐sectional analyses of the public schools in the state of California
ConclusionsThe findings suggest the needs to investigate reasons for this variability with consideration to combinations of sociodemographic, economic, and environmental risk factors that may contribute to disparities in childhood obesity. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

An addiction ‐based digital weight loss intervention: A multi‐centre randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsContrary with our hypothesis, our results showed no difference in the change in BMI status between treatment arms. Since efficacy of this digital intervention was not inferior to in-person, multi-disciplinary care, this could offer a reasonable weight management option for clinicians, based on youth and family specific characteristics, such as accessibility, resources, and communication styles.Clinical Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT035008353 (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Self ‐regulation linking the quality of early parent–child relationship to adolescents' obesity risk and food consumption
ConclusionThe findings highlight how the nature of parent –child relationships impacts developing regulatory processes in children which, in turn, have implications for obesity-related behaviours and outcomes. Interventions to reduce childhood obesity should consider self-regulation skills across multiple domains, and early parenting practices that foste r these capacities. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Uric acid and gamma ‐glutamyl‐transferase in children and adolescents with obesity: Association to anthropometric measures and cardiometabolic risk markers depending on pubertal stage, sex, degree of weight loss and type of patient care: Evaluation of the adiposity patient follow‐up registry
ConclusionAbdominal obesity may trigger hyperuricemia and hepatic involvement already in prepuberty. This may be stronger in infancy than anticipated to date. Even moderate weight loss has favourable effects on cardiometabolic risk profile and glucose homeostasis. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Adolescent overweight and obesity in Ireland —Trends and sociodemographic associations between 1990 and 2020

Opinions from the experts: Experiences of adolescents with severe obesity participating in meal replacement therapy
ConclusionsAdolescents provided information on factors that supported or hindered their engagement in MRT, and themes were consistent with prior literature on health behaviour change. Overall, adolescents would recommend MRT to other teenagers who carry extra weight. Future research can use the rich information provided by adolescents with severe obesity to enhance and individualize treatment options. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)
