Assessment of executive functions and physical activity in girls and boys with normal weight, overweight and obesity
ConclusionsEFs are affected by a high BMI and sedentary behaviour in school children. Boys and girls reflected differences to solve the same challenges. The MVPA has a positive effect on executive control skills mainly in overweight children. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Association between hyperglycaemia in pregnancy and growth of offspring in early childhood: The PANDORA study
ConclusionsMaternal hyperglycaemia was associated with differences in early childhood growth trajectories after adjustment for maternal BMI. Exploration of associations between in utero hyperglycaemia exposure and growth trajectories into later childhood is required. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Application of a composite scoring protocol to identify factors that contribute to the risk of overweight and obesity in Irish children
ConclusionThe use of a composite score is a beneficial means of identifying children at risk of overweight/obesity and may prove useful in the development of effective interventions to tackle childhood obesity. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

The influence of parental body composition and lifestyle on offspring growth trajectories
ConclusionsThis study highlights the contribution of parental lifestyle characteristics on weight trajectories of their daughters during the first year of life. The paternal impact stresses the need to further investigate health behaviours of expecting fathers in relation to offspring health. Family-based interventions are needed with a focus on increasing PA and limiting ST in both parents. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Distinct racial and ethnic metabolic syndrome characteristics: A comparative assessment in low ‐income children 7–10 years of age
ConclusionsMetS prevalence was high in children ≤10 years, and proposed criteria are susceptible to racial and ethnic bias, diagnosing some populations more than other populations with high cardiovascular risk. Earlier preventative measures should be imposed in clinical settings, accounting for racial and ethnic differences, to mitigate disea se onset. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Weight status change from birth to childhood and high carotid intima ‐media thickness in childhood
ConclusionsOverweight in childhood was associated with increased odds of high cIMT irrespective of birth weight status. The odds of high cIMT in childhood could be reversed if newborn with high birth weight become normal weight in childhood. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Determinants of rapid infant weight gain: A pooled analysis of seven cohorts
ConclusionMaternal country of birth, smoking status, child sex, birth weight, gestational age, infant feeding and parity were potential determinants of infant RWG. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Body fat, pericardial fat, liver fat and arterial health at age 10  years
ConclusionsAt school age, lean and fat mass seem to be differentially related to carotid intima-media thickness but not distensibility. Arterial development might be affected by lean mass, general and specific fat mass. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Risk stratification of adolescents for the screening of non ‐alcoholic fatty liver disease
ConclusionsThe two groups most likely to benefit by transient elastography screening are adolescents with obesity and overweight adolescents with one metabolic abnormality. These criteria reduce the number of individuals to be tested by approximately 80% (from an approximate 32 million adolescents to 6 –7.5 million adolescents), while retaining a diagnostic accuracy of 84%–85%. Relationship between parents' and children's objectively assessed movement behaviours prior to and during the COVID ‐19 pandemic
ConclusionDuring the pandemic, children got more MVPA, more SB, and slept fewer hours than before. Changes in PA seem to be associated with mother's behaviours, especially during weekdays. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Outcomes and risk factors of death among hospitalized children and adolescents with obesity and COVID ‐19 in Brazil: An analysis of a nationwide database
ConclusionsChildren and adolescents with obesity had higher risk of death compared with those without obesity. The higher risk of death was associated with female gender, low oxygen saturation at admission, and presence of other comorbidities. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Associations between maternal obesity and offspring gut microbiome in the first year of life
ConclusionsElevated maternal BMI is associated with relative depletion of butyrate-producing microbes and faecal butyrate in the early infant faecal microbiome. Overall microbial richness may aid in prediction of elevated adiposity in later infancy. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)
