Research progress of fibroblast growth factor 23 in acute kidney injury
AbstractFibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is primarily produced in bones and mainly regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism. The level of circulating FGF23 increases rapidly in the early stage of acute kidney injury (AKI). Recent studies have shown that FGF23 may serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis and poor prognosis of AKI. The mechanism of increased FGF23 in AKI may include increased production of FGF23, decreased renal clearance of FGF23, and some new regulatory factors, such as inflammation and glycerol 3-phosphate. However, the biological effects of elevated FGF23 in AKI are still unclear. It is also not know...

Post-transplant education for kidney recipients and their caregivers
AbstractSuccessful outcomes in pediatric kidney transplantation require the involvement of the transplant team as well as recipients and their caregivers. Enhancing patient and family understanding of the disease and of post-transplant care can result in improved adherence and outcomes. Educational strategies should aim to be broad, understandable, innovative, and inclusive while maintaining a tailored approach to individualized care. Teaching should not be viewed as a one-time event but rather as an ongoing conversation throughout the duration of care, emphasizing different aspects throughout the patient ’s various deve...

Treatment of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome at onset: a comparison between 8- and 12-week regimens in everyday clinical practice
ConclusionsDespite the limitations of a retrospective study with limited follow-up, our data indicate that switching treatment from a shorter to a longer scheme did not improve the clinical outcome at 24  months of observation.Graphical abstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information (Source: Pediatric Nephrology)

Plasma FGF23 is associated with left atrial remodeling in children on hemodialysis
ConclusionsIn children on HD and preserved left ventricular  ejection fraction, greater FGF23 is associated with lower LA GLS (indicative of impaired atrial performance).Graphical AbstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information (Source: Pediatric Nephrology)

Language barriers and kidney transplantation in children
ConclusionsPediatric kidney transplant recipients requiring interpreter services for healthcare delivery demonstrate fewer post-transplant interactions with their healthcare team (fewer hospitalizations and more no-show visits) and lower 5-year patient survival compared with recipients not requiring interpreters.Graphical abstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information (Source: Pediatric Nephrology)
