Advances in Supporting Parents in Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder
The rising prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) calls for clear referral and treatment guidelines for children with ASD and their caregivers. Caregiver involvement in intervention is a standard practice of care and research suggests that teaching intervention strategies to caregivers can improve child outcomes and increase caregiver efficacy. Caregiver-mediated interventions that are naturalistic, developmental, and behavioral are effective in improving social and communication skills for children with ASD. Caregiver training models that use behavioral strategies are effective in reducing challenging behaviors. Fin...

The Importance of Addressing Multilevel Transactional Influences of Childhood Obesity to Inform Future Health Behavior Interventions
We provide a transactional model of health for understanding the early risk of obesity in youth. This model argues that positive health is construed through the choices and actions that youth take within the range of resources and constraints of their biological and contextual situations across time. Social, cognitive, affective, and behavioral regulatory/motivational processes within the child mediate the relation between life experiences and health outcomes and obesity pathways are influenced by cumulative risk or protective processes for health promotion/compromising behaviors influencing health. We provide evidence-bas...

Advancing School Behavioral Health at Multiple Levels of Scale
This article underscores the critical need for school behavioral health and presents strategies to advance effective programming at district, state, and regional levels. Themes include diverse stakeholder involvement, teaming, data-based decision-making, implement ation of evidence-based practices, screening, coaching and implementation support, progress monitoring and outcome evaluation, and using findings to scale-up effective programming. Implications for research, practice, and policy are reviewed along with ideas for the future development of this field. (Source: Pediatric Clinics of North America)

Seasonal Shifts in Children ’s Sedentary Behaviors, Physical Activity, and Sleep
This study fou nd that children’s behaviors fluctuate seasonally and thus, interventions must target behaviors during the times when children’s behaviors are the least healthy, specifically during the summer (when children are not in school) and winter. Finally, the paucity of data on seasonal variation in sle ep indicates a need for further research in this area. (Source: Pediatric Clinics of North America)

Synthesizing Adaptive Digital Bioethics to Guide the Use of Interactive Communication Technologies in Adolescent Behavioral Medicine
Despite the continuing integration of digital outreach tools into adolescent preventive services, adaptive guidance for their ethical use remains limited. In this configurative review, we synthesize the ad hoc, applied digital bioethics developed in adolescent human immunodeficiency virus prevention science. By focusing on generalizable technological affordances, while balancing privacy and autonomy, we offer strategies for identifying potential technologically mediated harms that can transcend specific platforms, tools, or the knowledge levels of individual clinicians. Clinical vignettes illustrate the application of thes...

Training Providers in Motivational Interviewing to Promote Behavior Change
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a highly specified behavior change communication approach to improve patient –provider relationships, provider communication, and patient health outcomes. Because MI is built on a foundation of patient autonomy support, a feature known to positively influence behavior change during adolescence and emerging adulthood, MI is an evidence-based framework that can inform interv entions targeting improvements in health outcomes among youth. MI can be difficult to implement with adequate fidelity, because learning MI requires time and commitment from busy providers with competing priorities. Th...

Resilience-Based Intervention to Promote Mental and Behavioral Health in Children
The resilience framework offers a powerful tool to study how individuals respond to adversity. Intervention efforts building on 40  years of resilience research show promise in promoting mental and behavioral health of children in the context of adversity. This paper provides an overview of resilience and resilience-based interventions on mental and behavioral health in children. The importance of understanding resilience thro ugh the lens of the socioecological systems theory is highlighted, and the potential benefit of multilevel interventions in promoting mental and behavioral health is discussed.
