Supplementary Motor Area Activity Differs in Parkinson's Disease with and without Freezing of Gait
Parkinsons Dis. 2023 Sep 4;2023:5033835. doi: 10.1155/2023/5033835. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe study aimed to investigate the neural changes that differentiate Parkinson's disease patients with freezing of gait and age-matched controls, using ambulatory electroencephalography event-related features. Compared to controls, definite freezers exhibited significantly less alpha desynchronization at the motor cortex about 300 ms before and after the start of overground walking and decreased low-beta desynchronization about 300 ms before and about 300 and 700 ms after walking onset. The late slope of motor potentials also diffe...

Delivering Optimal Care to People with Cognitive Impairment in Parkinson's Disease: A Qualitative Study of Patient, Caregiver, and Professional Perspectives
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights unmet need for people with this complex condition. Clinicians should adapt their approach and communication techniques for this population and provide tailored information and support to both PwP and caregivers. Services need to be more streamlined and collaborative, providing more time and flexibility. There is a need for wider awareness and deeper understanding of this condition and its differences from other types of dementia.PMID:37675146 | PMC:PMC10480026 | DOI:10.1155/2023/9732217 (Source: Parkinsons Disease)

Genome- and Exome-Wide Association Studies Revealed Candidate Genes Associated with DaTscan Imaging Features
CONCLUSION: We have shown that particular variants of IGFN1 and MAP2K4 genes may be associated with PD. Since DaTscan imaging could be positive in other Parkinsonian syndromes, caution should be taken when interpreting our results. Future experimental studies are also needed to verify these findings.PMID:37664790 | PMC:PMC10468272 | DOI:10.1155/2023/2893662 (Source: Parkinsons Disease)
