Serum amylase levels in the first postoperative day after pancreaticoduodenectomy: What are they related to and what can they predict?
Objectives Serum amylase values in the first postoperative day after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) are part of the diagnosis of acute postoperative pancreatitis(PAP). Still there are some evidences that they can also be related to others postoperative complications as pancreatic fistula (PF).The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of serum amylase levels in the first postoperative day, their correlation with the development of PAP and PF in a multivariate approach. Variant hepatic artery in pancreatoduodenectomy for adenocarcinoma – Does it have influence on postoperative complications and oncological radicality?
Objectives The anatomical variants of the hepatic artery (HA) can be found in up to 30% of population. Most common variants - a replaced or accessory right HA - may pose technical challenges during pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic adenocarcinoma as a result of its proximity to the head of pancreas. The aim of our study is to compare the outcome following a PD in patients with and without a variant HA arising from superior mesenteric artery. (Source: Pancreatology)

Clinical implications of intraoperative fluid therapy in pancreatic surgery: It is not “just water”
Objectives Recent studies have suggested that intraoperative fluid overload is associated with a worse outcome after major abdominal surgery. However, evidence in the field of pancreatic surgery is still not consistent. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether intraoperative fluid management could affect the outcome of a major pancreatic resection. (Source: Pancreatology)

Autologous Islet transplantation and pancreas resection for complex pancreatic trauma-is there a role for remote processing?
Objectives Autologous islet transplantation (AIT) after pancreatic resection can be performed for indications other than chronic pancreatitis. Complex pancreatic trauma refractory to endoscopic and conservative treatment often necessitates major resection, with a risk of post-operative glucose intolerance. The use of AIT in this setting poses unique challenges such as the need to isolate islets on an urgent basis and has not been widely reported. The aim of this study was to explore the role of remote processing of autologous islets for complex pancreatic trauma. (Source: Pancreatology)

Duodenojejunal or gastroenteric leakage after pancreatic resection: A case control study
Objectives The duodeno-jejunal (DJ) or gastro-jejunal (GJ) anastomosis leakage represents a rare but life-threatening complication after either pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) or total pancreatectomy. Aim of the present study was to assess the incidence, clinical presentation, risk factors and management of the DJ or GJ leak after either PD or TP (Source: Pancreatology)

Feeding jejunostomy in patients undergoing major pancreatic resections
Objectives Nutritional support is a key point of perioperative therapy after major pancreatic resections. The aim of this study was to asses feasibility and safety of jejunostomy as early enteral feeding approach. (Source: Pancreatology)

Resectable periampullary tumor after severe acute pancreatitis. What type of surgery to choose?
Objectives Specific pancreas remnant-related complications are most frequent causes of severe surgical problems and mortality after proximal pancreatic resections. Aim of this study is to asses safety of two surgical approaches in patients with resectable pancreatic head and ampullary tumors after previously treated severe acute pancreatitis (AP). 2029 cases of Whipple's procedure: 12-year experience from a single center
Objectives Whipple ’s procedure is one of the most challenging operation in abdominal surgery. Better outcomes were reported in experienced hands and in high-volume centers. Our aims are to investigate short- and long-term outcomes after Whipple procedure. (Source: Pancreatology)

Difficult diagnosis and localization of multi-focal nesidioblastosis in an adult: Implications of near-infrared intraoperative imaging
Objectives Introduction: Nesidioblastosis in adults is an infrequent cause of hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. Only 4 cases of the focal form in adults have been published to date. Nesidioblastosis is a real challenge for surgeons, as functional and anatomical imaging are not able to detect and localize it accurately. (Source: Pancreatology)

Prognostic impact of Ki-67 proliferative index in resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
Objectives Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a tumor with a complex biology and a dismal prognosis. New targets to stage correctly the disease and manage treatment are needed. Ki-67 expression in tumor tissues is a well-known parameter representing the aggressiveness of neoplasms, but it is not used for PDAC. Aim of this study is to analyze the role of Ki-67 as prognostic factor in a series of resected PDAC. (Source: Pancreatology)

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) reduces the incidence of Delayed Gastric Emptying (DGE) following Pancreaticoduodenectomy
Objectives Delayed Gastric Emptying (DGE) is a common complication following partial pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and significantly contributes to prolonged hospitalisation. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have been widely introduced in the UK aiming to accelerate recovery and reduce length of hospital stay. There are limited data on the impact of ERAS on DGE. (Source: Pancreatology)

Distal pancreatectomy with resection of the celiac axis (DP-CAR) for pancreatic cancer
Objectives Pancreatic body/tail cancer often involves the Celiac Axis (CA) and regards as an unresectable disease. To treat the disease, we employed distal pancreatectomy with resection of the Celiac Axis (DP-CAR) . We aim to analyze whether DP-CAR is a safe approach with acceptable patient survival.
