Finding Predictors of Azathioprine-Induced Pancreatitis in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Objectives Azathioprine (AZA)-induced pancreatitis (AIP) is a common, idiosyncratic adverse effect whose incidence and risk factors data in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients are not fully clarified. We aimed to establish the incidence, clinical course and identify risk factors for AIP. Methods A retrospective study including all IBD patients on AZA between January 2013 and July 2020 was conducted. Patients with AIP were considered. Results Azathioprine-induced pancreatitis occurred in 33 patients (7.5%; 442 patients on AZA). The mean time receiving AZA until AIP was 25 days, with a mean dose of 88...

Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors: The Effect of Facility Type on Patient Survival
Objectives During the last decades, significant progress has been made in the management of patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs). It is unclear how the type of the treating health care facility alters patient outcomes. Methods Data from pNETs reported to the National Cancer Database between 2004 and 2016 were examined. Types of institutions were as follows: academic/research cancer program (ARP), comprehensive community cancer program (CCCP), integrated network cancer program (INCP), and community cancer program (CCP). Results A total of 17,887 patients with pNETs were analyzed. Treatmen...

Baseline Factors Predictive of the Receipt of Second-Line Chemotherapy After Nab-Paclitaxel Plus Gemcitabine for Patients With Advanced Pancreatic Cancer
Conclusions Sarcopenia and hypoalbuminemia at baseline might be negative predictive factors for the receipt of 2L chemotherapy after AG treatment in patients with APC. (Source: Pancreas)

Efficacy and Safety of Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation Therapy Administered for 5 Versus 2 Weeks for Resectable and Borderline Resectable Pancreatic Cancer
Conclusions The 5-week regimen of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy has good clinical efficacy and safety for R- and BRV-PDAC. The 5-week regimen could achieve better outcomes than the 2-week regimen for BRV-PDAC. In contrast, both regimens achieved similar outcomes for R-PDAC. (Source: Pancreas)

Acute Pancreatitis in Japan: Comparison of Before and After Revision of the Clinical Guidelines
Objectives Cases of acute pancreatitis (AP) are increasing worldwide, and mortality remains high in severe cases. In 2015, the Japanese guidelines for the management of AP were revised. We aimed to clarify the clinical practice of AP in Japan and its trend during the revision of the guidelines using a Japanese nationwide administrative database. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 102,119 patients with AP who were hospitalized between April 2014 and March 2018. The study period was divided into the first period (the time before the revision: fiscal years 2014 and 2015) and second period (after the revision: 2016...

Multidisciplinary Approach to the Care of Children With Acute Recurrent Pancreatitis and Chronic Pancreatitis
Conclusions It is important to manage children with acute recurrent pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis in a multidisciplinary setting. There is need to study the impact of these personnel on the outcomes of children with pancreatitis. (Source: Pancreas)

Epidemiological Factors Associated With Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm of the Pancreas: A Dual Center Case-Control Study
Conclusions A history of urogenital and colorectal cancer often coincides with IPMN, which have an indication for surgery and are associated with preoperative episodes of pancreatitis and with endocrine insufficiency. Prospective studies are needed to investigate the role of these factors in IPMN development. (Source: Pancreas)

Clinical and Analytical Characterization of the DiaSorin and ScheBo Fecal Pancreatic Elastase 1 Assays
Conclusions The new DiaSorin LIAISON immunoassay preforms similarly to the well-known ScheBo ELISA. Pancreatic elastase assays can help identify patients with severe EPI but are not as useful in classifying mild/moderate EPI. (Source: Pancreas)

Critical Considerations in Bioluminescence Imaging of Transplanted Islets: Dynamic Signal Change in Early Posttransplant Phase and Signal Absorption by Tissues
Conclusions Posttransplant phase and graft location/depth critically impact the bioluminescence images captured in islet transplantation studies. Understanding these parameters is critical for reducing experimental biases and proper interpretation of data. (Source: Pancreas)

Efficacy and Safety of Peroral Pancreatoscopy Through the Fistula Created by Endoscopic Ultrasound–Guided Pancreaticogastrostomy
Conclusions Endoscopic ultrasound/endosonography-guided pancreaticogastrostomy and various procedures (including POPS) performed through the MF are feasible and effective and can diagnose and treat PDS/PJAS with acceptable AEs rates. (Source: Pancreas)

Hedgehog Signaling Pathway Proteins in Prognosis of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma and Its Differentiation From Chronic Pancreatitis
Objectives The Hedgehog signaling pathway (Hh) probably plays a role in development and progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Methods In our study, 114 patients (83 with PDAC and 31 with chronic pancreatitis [CP]) after pancreatic surgery were enrolled. The immunoexpression of Sonic hedgehog (Shh), Smoothened (Smo), and Glioblastoma transcription factor 1 (Gli1) and Ki-67 were detected in tissue specimens. Results Mean (standard deviation) immunoexpression of all Hh pathway molecules was significantly higher in PDAC than in CP patients: Shh, 2.24 (0.57) versus 1.17 (0.25) (P (Source: Pancreas)

Best Practices for the Coordinated Care of Patients With Neuroendocrine Tumors Undergoing Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy
Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare, diverse malignancies; approximately two thirds originate in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas and are known as gastroenteropancreatic NET. Most cases are diagnosed in the advanced or metastatic setting and overexpress somatostatin receptors. Recommended first-line treatment is somatostatin analogs; however, disease progression is common. [177Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE is a radiolabeled peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) indicated for the treatment of adult patients with somatostatin receptor-positive foregut, midgut, and hindgut gastroenteropancreatic NETs and progression on firs...
