A Shared Journey: Effective communication tools to successfully navigate the patient-provider relationship
The connections that healthcare providers build through meaningful communication with patients is critical to providing compassionate, safe, and effective pain care. Because pain cannot be measured objectively, successful communication allows for a shared understanding of the lived experience of persistent pain. By validating a patient's experience of pain through empathetic listening, a therapeutic alliance can be built that helps patients feel empowered to cope. (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

In late 2019, in recognition of the highly stressful nature of the healthcare workplace, we began offering TT sessions to hospital units and departments. Managers would choose a day and time and provide a quiet space where TT sessions would be offered over a 1 1/2 - 2 hour time period for their staff. (Source: Pain Management Nursing)
