Pain Catastrophizing Dimensions Mediate the Relationship Between Chronic Pain Severity and Depression
Although past studies have found significant positive correlations of both pain severity and overall pain catastrophizing (PC) levels with depression in chronic pain samples, less is known about the extent to which specific PC dimensions (i.e., helplessness, magnification, rumination) explain links between pain severity and depression. Effect Ketamine Infusion Protocol on Pain Management and Opioid Consumption in Opioid Tolerant Cancer Patients
The cancer pain is widespread ranged from between 30% to 70% for patients in early in the diagnosis and intense as the disease progression. Opioids don't treat pain separately from other medication that produces painkiller. Prolonged use of opioids may increase the risk of reducing the effectiveness of opioids which causes increase in pain levels, and then tolerance may increase unresponsiveness to opioids which also lead to elevating pain and opioid consumption. One of the most causes of lowering opioids responsiveness is the (NMDA) receptor. (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

Keep the Momentum Going: Changing Clinicians Perspectives on Needlestick Interventions
This evidence-based practice project identifies clinician attitudes and barriers to utilizing needlestick interventions and strategies for sustainability. Needlestick pain and anxiety are prevalent. Since the number of vaccines has increased, needlestick phobia in children and adults has increased. Evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies are available to ease pain and anxiety associated with needlesticks, yet literature indicates these interventions are not routinely offered. Exploring the Impact of Buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone) Use to Length of Sobriety After Opioid Detoxification
The purpose of this descriptive correlational study with retrospective chart review was to explore the relationship between inpatient buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone) protocols and discharge prescription practices with LOS at an inpatient western Washington Recovery Center. An approval letter from the organization's Director and IRB approval was obtained. The opioid crisis remains a public health concern. Utilization and access to quality Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for detoxification can impact length of sobriety (LOS). (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

Implementation of Healing Touch in the Acute Care Setting
The aim of this quality improvement project was to determine the feasibility of implementing Healing Touch (HT) as a complementary therapy at the bedside and its impact on patient self-reported levels of pain, nausea, and anxiety. Healing Touch is a relaxing, heart-centered, biofield therapy. Healing Touch assists in the creation of a coherent and balanced energy field, which supports one's inherent ability to heal (Anderson et al., 2017). (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

Naloxegol (Movantik ®) Provides Rapid and Sustained Improvement of Opioid-Induced Constipation Symptoms Irrespective of Opioid Dose
Naloxegol (Movantik), an oral peripherally acting mu-opioid receptor antagonist has demonstrated rapid relief of opioid-induced constipation (OIC) in patients with chronic non-cancer pain in two phase 3 trials (KODIAC 4/5; NCT01309841/NCT01323790). This analysis aims to characterize the OIC symptom burden and evaluate the efficacy of naloxegol in treating symptoms of OIC based on daily opioid dosages. This is the first naloxegol analysis based on a lower opioid dose cutoff of 100 MEU/day. (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

Virtual Reality & Acute Pain: A Literature Review
Safe and effective pain management is a challenge among hospitalized patients. Pharmacological interventions are often the first choice but are associated with side effects and can contribute to the opioid epidemic. Nonpharmacological interventions, such as virtual reality (VR), may be an effective adjuvant in pain reduction. This literature review addressed the following question: Does VR compared to standard treatment reduce pain in hospitalized adult patients? (Source: Pain Management Nursing)

Naloxegol (Movantik ®) Provides Rapid Response and Sustained Improvement of Opioid-Induced Constipation Symptoms in Older Adults
Naloxegol (Movantik ®), an oral peripherally acting mu-opioid receptor antagonist (PAMORA) has demonstrated rapid and predictable relief of OIC in patients treated with opioids for chronic non-cancer pain in two phase 3 trials (KODIAC 4/5; NCT01309841/NCT01323790). In subjects ≥65 yrs, naloxegol (25mg, 12.5mg) demon strated significantly better response rates, clinically relevant early symptom relief, and predictable efficacy compared with PBO. Improvements in SBMs, CSBMs, straining, and stool consistency were rapid and sustained across 12 weeks. (Source: Pain Management Nursing)
