Anesthetic management of children with medically refractory pulmonary hypertension undergoing surgical Potts shunt
CONCLUSIONS: Our single center expereince shows that the Potts shunt surgery, despite high short-term mortaility, may offer another option for palliation in children with medically refractory pulmonary hypertension.PMID:37800662 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14764 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

Registries in pediatric anesthesiology: A brief history and a new way forward
Paediatr Anaesth. 2023 Oct 4. doi: 10.1111/pan.14775. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClinical registries are multicenter prospective observational datasets that have been used to examine current perioperative practices in pediatric anesthesia. These datasets have proven useful in quantifying the incidence of rare adverse outcomes. Data from registries can highlight associations between severe patient safety events and patient and procedure-related risk factors. Registries are an effective tool to delineate practices and outcomes in niche patient populations. They have been used to quantify uncommon complications of medicati...

Opioid prescription rates associated with surgery among adolescents in the United States from 2015 to 2020
CONCLUSION: The large number of adolescents being prescribed opioids for surgery in the USA each year, suggests there is a need for national guidelines aimed at adolescent opioid use, similar to the recent CDC guidelines aimed at adult opioid use.PMID:37789737 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14753 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

Analysis of the factors contributing to residual weakness after sugammadex administration in pediatric patients under 2  years of age
CONCLUSIONS: In this single-center, retrospective cohort study of pediatric surgery patients, there was an association between the hazard of sugammadex redose with both increased age and weight.PMID:37792601 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14773 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

It's time to stop using nitrous oxide for pediatric mask induction
CONCLUSION: Utilizing other, evidence-based, techniques to facilitate tranquil mask placement will assure that patients have a pleasant induction experience and avoiding nitrous oxide will reduce the environmental impact, as well as improve the safety of, pediatric mask induction.PMID:37792609 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14778 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)
