Hearing Aids Enhance Music Enjoyment in Individuals With Hearing Loss
Objective To investigate music appreciation in hearing aid (HA) users with varying levels of hearing loss (HL). Study Design Cross-sectional, within-subjects design. Setting Tertiary medical center, community. Patients Adults (≥18 yr) bilateral HA users. Interventions HA usage. Main Outcome Measures Outcome variables included self-reported music enjoyment measures (pleasantness, musicality, naturalness) with and without HAs assessed with visual analogue scales (10 indicates highest level of enjoyment, 0 the least). Exposure variables include HL (better ear pure-tone average) and spe...

Tympanoplasty With and Without Mastoidectomy for Chronic Otitis Media Without Cholesteatoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusion This study endorses clinically similar audiological outcomes and a reduced risk difference of graft failure with mastoidectomy. Although these data suggest that adding a mastoidectomy could decrease the risk of graft failure, the risk reduction is minimal. More research on the cost-effectiveness and the specific patient clinical characteristics and comorbidities that would benefit from adding a mastoidectomy is warranted. IgG4-Related Sclerosing Disease of the Temporal Bone: A Systematic Review
Conclusion IgG4-RD of the temporal bone radiologically manifests as space-occupying, lytic lesions; clinically, it presents with vague otological symptoms. Diagnosis involves a thorough workup, with histopathology being crucial in setting a definite diagnosis. IgG4-RD tends to respond well to systemic corticosteroids, whereas surgery is mostly required for diagnostic purposes. (Source: Otology and Neurotology)

Dural Venous Sinus Arachnoid Granulations in Patients with Pulsatile Tinnitus
Objective To determine the relationship, if any, between dural venous sinus arachnoid granulations (AGs) and pulsatile tinnitus. Study Design Retrospective case-control study. Methods Between October 1999 and March 2020, magnetic resonance imaging of patients with tinnitus (pulsatile [PT] and nonpulsatile [NPT]) were assessed for the presence of dural venous sinuses AG. During the same interval, patients with AGs found incidentally on all magnetic resonance imagings ordered without an indication of tinnitus were reviewed. Demographic variables recorded included patient age, sex, race, body mass index, and...

Analysis of Bone Mineral Density and Bithermal Caloric Test Results in Unilateral Idiopathic Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo Patients
Conclusion The decrement of BMD might be one of the pathogeneses in patients with unilateral pc-iBPPV and associated with multiple recurrences. Moreover, positive CP value cannot be regarded as a predictive factor for recurrence; however, there is a clear association between CP and BMD. (Source: Otology and Neurotology)

Benefits of High-Dose Corticosteroid and Antiviral Agent Combination Therapy in the Treatment of House-Brackman Grade VI Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
Conclusion We showed that a combination of a high-dose corticosteroid and antiviral agent produced the best outcomes for patients with HB grade VI RHS. However, our results were not statistically significant because of small sample size. (Source: Otology and Neurotology)

Progression of Hearing Loss in Observed Non-Growing Vestibular Schwannoma
Conclusions A long-term analysis of hearing outcomes in observed vestibular schwannoma is presented. With observation, VS more than or equal to 5 mm is associated with continued hearing loss even without tumor growth, while non-growing tumors less than 5 mm are not associated with continuing hearing loss. These data inform expectations for observed VS for providers and patients. (Source: Otology and Neurotology)
