A Prospective Assessment of Nasopharyngolaryngoscope Recording Adaptor Use in Residency Training
Flexible fiberoptic nasopharyngolaryngoscope (FN) examinations are important to the practice of otolaryngology (ENT). We sought to assess whether a portable recording adaptor for the FN can enhance resident learning and improve patient management. The adaptor was used prospectively on consultations by first- and second-year ENT residents, and changes in diagnosis and management were recorded in the patient care workflow. In 43 patients, we found a 23% change in diagnosis, 44% change in management, and 19% change in surgical management after an attending reviewed recorded videos. Residents and attendings reported that discu...

Impact of Minimally Invasive Multilevel Surgery on Mild/Moderate OSA
Conclusion Ten-year experience shows that treatment with single-stage multilevel minimally invasive surgery decreases objective and subjective measures in selected patients with mild to moderate OSA. Although not curative, this technique helps to control symptoms in a population of patients who refused CPAP. (Source: Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery)

Incidence and Risk Factors for Prolonged Hospitalization and Readmission after Transsphenoidal Pituitary Surgery
Conclusion This review of a large validated surgical database demonstrates that CHF is an independent predictor of hospital readmission after transsphenoidal surgery. Although CHF is a known risk factor for postoperative complications, it poses unique challenges to patients with potential postoperative pituitary dysfunction. Psychometric Validation of a Moroccan Version of the 22-Item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test
Conclusion The present study has found the Moroccan version of SNOT-22 to be valid and easy to use with good reliability, validity, and responsiveness. It can be used to measure the impact of CRS on the patient’s quality of life and may also be used to evaluate CRS treatment. (Source: Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery)

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Resolution in Hypopnea- versus Apnea-Predominant Children after Adenotonsillectomy
Conclusion This small study demonstrated no difference in disease resolution between children with hypopnea- and apnea-predominant OSA who underwent adenotonsillectomy. Additionally, adenotonsillectomy significantly improved OSA in most children, and high preoperative oAHI was associated with persistent postoperative OSA. Nervus Intermedius Symptoms following Surgical or Radiation Therapy for Vestibular Schwannoma
Conclusion This study demonstrates the clinical importance of monitoring nervus intermedius symptoms, since a high percentage of all patients undergoing intervention will be symptomatic during management. Patients with motor dysfunction are at a higher risk of developing nervus intermedius sequelae and need close follow-up. Although impairment is common, many symptoms will improve over time with no long-term difference between intervention patients and those under observation. Eustachian Tube Dilation via a Transtympanic Approach in 6 Cadaver Heads: A Feasibility Study
The goal of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of endoscopic transtympanic balloon dilation of the cartilaginous eustachian tube. To accomplish this, transtympanic balloon dilation of the cartilaginous eustachian tube was performed on 11 eustachian tubes (6 cadaver heads). The balloon catheter was introduced and passed through the protympanic orifice of the eustachian tube transtympanically under endoscopic view and cannulated without incident in all cadavers. Computed tomography was then performed postprocedure to evaluate for inadvertent dilation of the bony eustachian tube, adverse placement of the balloon, or a...

The Accuracy of the Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Diagnosis: Utility of the Stroboscopic Exam
Conclusions LPR appears to be an overused diagnosis for laryngologic complaints. For patients who have already had transnasal flexible laryngoscopic exams prior to their referral, laryngeal stroboscopy is the key diagnostic tool in arriving at the correct diagnosis.
