Physical function trajectory after wrist or lower arm fracture in postmenopausal women: results from the Women ’s Health Initiative Study
ConclusionsWomen with lower arm or wrist fracture, particularly those aged 80 and older, were more likely to experience declines in physical functioning than women without such fractures, independent of baseline physical functioning level. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Incidence of hip fractures in Mexico 2006 –2019: increasing numbers but decreasing rates
ConclusionRates of hip fracture have steadily declined in Mexico since 2006; however, with the population aging in the coming decades, current rates declines could be expected to reverse. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Semi-automatic proximal humeral trabecular bone density assessment tool: technique application and clinical validation
ConclusionsWe evaluated the bone quality of the proximal humeral using chest CT through the semi-automatic PL-QCT system for the first time. Comparison between it and PB-QCT indicated that it could be a reliable shoulder BMD assessment tool with acceptable accuracy and precision.SummaryThis study developed and verify a semi-automatic PL-QCT for assessment of proximal humeral bone density based on CT to assist in the assessment of proximal humeral osteoporosis and development of individualized treatment plans for shoulders. The incidence of subsequent contralateral hip fracture and factors associated with increased risk: the IMPACT Contralateral Fracture Study
ConclusionOne in 40 (2.5%) hip fracture patients sustained a contralateral fracture within 12  months of their index fracture, and deprivation was associated with a reduced risk of contralateral fracture. No difference in 30-day mortality was found. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Associations between ultra-distal forearm bone mineral density and incident fracture in women
ConclusionUltra-distal forearm BMD may aid risk assessments for any distal radius fractures. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Cross-sectional studies of the causal link between asthma and osteoporosis: insights from Mendelian randomization and bioinformatics analysis
ConclusionOur study confirms a causal link between asthma and osteoporosis and highlights the importance of considering asthma in osteoporosis prediction models. It also suggests that asthma may accelerate osteoporosis by increasing bone turnover through inflammatory factors, disrupting the coupling between osteoblasts and osteoclasts, ultimately leading to bone loss. Differences in femoral fracture localizations in men and women in Switzerland between 1998 and 2021 —reversal of the secular trend?
ConclusionIncidence changes of pertrochanteric fractures and femoral shaft fractures deserve increased attention, especially in men. Pooling diagnostic codes for defining hip fractures may hide differing patterns by localization and sex. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Twelve-month resistance and impact exercise program or risedronate provides a relative benefit to hip bone structure in postmenopausal women: results from a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionExercise and bisphosphonates may influence structural and strength estimates at the hip, but not at peripheral sites (tibia). Neither exercise nor bisphosphonates were found to be superior in improving estimates of hip bone strength. (Source: Osteoporosis International)
