The impact of altered neural processing of nociceptive signals on physical function in people with knee OA — we know little and have much to learn
The study of altered neural processing of nociceptive signals in osteoarthritis (OA), particularly of the knee, has taken off over the past two decades, providing valuable insights into our understanding of the complexity of pain mechanisms across the disease course. Comments on ‘Instruments to assess appropriateness of hip and knee arthroplasty: a systematic review’
The paper by Pacheco-Brousseau et al. describes a systematic review of psychometric properties of appropriateness criteria for knee and hip arthroplasty — a topic of interest to us1–3. Appropriateness criteria continue to be highly relevant, especially given the substantial variation in arthroplasty utilization worldwide — a likely indicator of both over- and underuse5,6. Quantifying Sustained Pain Worsening in Knee Osteoarthritis
Recent work suggests that many persons with knee osteoarthritis (OA) experience stable symptoms over time. Whether patients experience periods of symptom exacerbation or flare which interrupt this stable course, and how long such periods last, has received little study. Disseminating evidence through social media to accelerate uptake of osteoarthritis clinical recommendations: a knowledge mobilization challenge

Osteoarthritis year in review 2022: epidemiology & therapy
This ‘Year in Review’ provides a synopsis of key research themes and individual studies from the clinical osteoarthritis (OA) field, focused on epidemiology and therapy. The electronic database search for the review was adapted from the 2021 year in review search, to increase search specificity for r elevant study designs, and was conducted in Medline, Embase and medRxiv (31st March 2021 to 4th March 2022). Axial rotation and pain are associated with facet joint osteoarthritis in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
