Comparison of Different Methods of Semiquantitative Assessment and Subjective Scores for Retropatellar Articular Cartilage Evaluation in Advancing Osteoarthritis
CONCLUSIONS: 1. Comparisons of our retropatellar cartilage analysis with femoral and tibial studies utilizing similar techniques show significant differences. 2. Cartilage layer thickness, ECM composition, geometry and configuration are essential for patellofemoral biomechanics. 3. Consequently, there is a need for diversified approaches towards retropatellar surface during TKA as well as for advanced cartilage restoration techniques.PMID:38410066 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0054.2881 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

Effect of Chronic Inflammation on Bone Density in Type 2 Diabetes Following Total Hip Arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: 1. The level of HbA1c in patients with T2DM is not associated with periprosthetic changes in BMD. 2. BMD changes may be associated with chronic inflammation and may mask severe abnormalities in bone microarchitecture. 3. Patients with T2DM after THA should undergo long-term clinical follow-up.PMID:38410067 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0054.2882 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

The Relationship Between Using Smartphones andText Neck Syndrome in Online Learning Among University Students in Jordan: A Survey Study
CONCLUSIONS: 1. Smartphones are widely becoming essential in educational technology, and more concern should be expended to increase the awareness about optimal and healthy usage of smartphones by restricting usage duration in order to reduce neck and shoulder pain and associated poor functioning in daily living activities. 2. Poor patterns of smartphone use increase the likelihood of neck pain. 3. Neck movement limitations are not associated with age or gender. 4. Students who did not report limitation in neck movement were less likely to have difficulty with reading.PMID:38410068 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0054.2883 (Source: ...

Computer-Assisted Modeling of Greater Tubercle Transposition Effect on Stress Distribution in Shoulder
CONCLUSION: The simulated 3D model of the shoulder, based on anatomical and anthropometric data as close as possible to the real ones, makes possible highly accurate determination of the optimal mutual position of the movable elements of the real joint individually for each specific patient, and makes it possible to accurately perform a minimally invasive surgical operation.PMID:38410069 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0054.2884 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

Is Simultaneous Bilateral Knee Replacement a Safe Approach for Patients with Bilateral Knee Osteoarthritis? A Prospective Case-control Study
CONCLUSIONS: 1. Simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is considered safe and feasible mainly for younger individuals with ASA 1 or 2 health status. 2. Patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral TKA experience significantly reduced hospital stays. 3. The procedure may not be advisable for elderly patients at a higher risk of systemic complications.PMID:38410070 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0054.3271 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

The Impacts of COVID-19 on the Management of Ankle Fractures and their Outcomes: A Systematic Review
Ortop Traumatol Rehabil. 2023 Oct 31;25(5):243-248. doi: 10.5604/01.3001.0053.9672.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic is still an unresolved situation in Thailand and worldwide at large. The purpose of this study was to interpret the impacts of COVID-19 on the management of ankle fractures and their outcomes. A systematic search and review were performed in accordance with the PRISMA guideline based on the PubMed database. The search terms were 'ankle fracture' and 'COVID'. From an initial search, a total of 29 abstracts were found and screened in accordance with the eligibility criteria. Then, five articles were considered eli...

Outcomes of Odontoid Process Fracture Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: 1. Odontoid fracture fixation with a single cannulated screw is a safe method of treatment. It provided a high union rate and good stability of the fracture. 2. Fracture non-union was noted more often in the group of older patients, but it did not negatively impact quality of life and performance.PMID:38088099 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0053.9673 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

Acute Acetabular Protrusion: the Hardinge Approach for Implant Removal and One-stage Hip Reconstruction
We present the case of a 76-year-old man referred to our institution for reconstructive surgery following acute pelvic penetration of the acetabular shell during total hip arthroplasty. We used a single-stage Hardinge approach to retrieve the shell and successfully reconstruct the acetabulum. Specific indications for using this method are proposed. In carefully selected cases of intrapelvic implants, a single-stage method can improve patient outcomes while minimising unnecessary risks associated with the conventional two-stage approach.PMID:38088100 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0053.9674 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)

Arthroscopic-assisted Treatment of a Posterolateral Tibial Plateau Fracture with an Accompanying Tibial Eminence Fracture. Case Report
Ortop Traumatol Rehabil. 2023 Oct 31;25(5):267-277. doi: 10.5604/01.3001.0053.9675.ABSTRACTPosterolateral tibial plateau fractures pose a challenge even to the most experienced orthopedic trauma specialists. Arthroscopic fracture management techniques have been emerging as an increasingly popular alternative in the treatment of selected tibial plateau fractures. This technique enables precise visualization of the articular surface of the tibia and its anatomical reduction with lateral meniscus repair, which further enables the restoration of biomechanical function of the meniscus and prevents early degeneration. In additio...

The Significance of Vitamin D in Adult Orthopaedics and Traumatology
Ortop Traumatol Rehabil. 2023 Oct 31;25(5):279-285. doi: 10.5604/01.3001.0053.9676.ABSTRACTThis review summarises the most recent data on the clinical significance of vitamin D in adult orthopaedics and traumatology. It covers practical aspects of vitamin D supplementation, along with their pathophysiological and epidemiological rationale. Special attention is given to the association between low vitamin D status and worse postoperative outcomes.PMID:38088102 | DOI:10.5604/01.3001.0053.9676 (Source: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja)
