Valsecchi et  al (p. 210) evaluated the use of sunitinib as adjuvant therapy in a group of uveal melanoma patients with a high risk of developing distant metastases. They conducted a retrospective cohort study on uveal melanoma patients diagnosed from January 2007 to January 2013 and selected from the database of the Ocular Oncology Service at Wills Eye Hospital. The researchers compared the overall survival of 54 patients who received adjuvant sunitinib for 6 months to 74 patients in the control group with the same risk factors. (Source: Ophthalmology)

Genetic Risk Score Is Associated with Vertical Cup-to-Disc Ratio and Improves Prediction of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma in Latinos
Genome-wide association studies have identified multiple genetic variants associated with vertical cup-to-disc ratio (VCDR). Genetic risk scores (GRS) examine the aggregate genetic effect of individual variants on a trait by combining these separate genetic variants into a single measure. The purpose of this study was to construct GRS for VCDR and to determine whether the GRS are associated with VCDR and whether the GRS increase the discriminatory ability for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in a Latino population. Performance Rates Measured in the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS © Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight)
In 2007, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Systems (CMS) ushered in an era of performance measurement with its Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, later named the “Physician Quality Reporting System” (PQRS), a program that offered financial incentives to qualified providers to report quality measures to the CMS. In anticipation of the need for quality measures, the American Academy of Ophthalmology supported and worked with the American Medical Associatio n's Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement to convene the Eye Care Workgroup to develop performance measures on which providers could report. Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy
Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is an age-related macular degeneration (AMD) subtype and is seen particularly in Asians. Previous studies have suggested disparity in response to intravitreal injections of anti –vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents between PCV and typical AMD, and thus, the preferred treatment for PCV has remained unclear. Recent research has provided novel insights into the pathogenesis of PCV, and imaging studies based on OCT suggest that PCV belongs to a spectrum of condit ions characterized by pachychoroid, in which disturbance in the choroidal circulation seems to be central to it...
