Supplemental scleral buckle for the management of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment by pars plana vitrectomy: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Conclusion: Low-certainty evidence from RCTs did not demonstrate a benefit in placement of a supplemental scleral buckle during vitrectomy for management of RRD in the current analysis. Additional high-quality trials are needed to provide more precise estimates of effect. (Source: Ophthalmologica)

The Development of Macular Atrophy in Patients with Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration Receiving Anti-VEGF Treatment
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of blindness. Late AMD can be classified into exudative (commonly known as wet AMD [wAMD]) or dry AMD, both of which may progress to macular atrophy (MA). MA causes irreversible vision loss and currently has no approved pharmacological treatment. The standard of care for wAMD is treatment with anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF). However, recent evidence suggests that anti-VEGF treatment may play a role in the development of MA. Therefore, it is important to identify risk factors for the development of MA in patients with wAMD. For example, excessive blo...

Clinical/demographic, functional testing and multimodal imaging differences between genetically solved and unsolved retinitis pigmentosa
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to compare clinical/demographic, functional testing and multimodal imaging features between genetically solved and genetically unsolved non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa (nsRP) patients. METHODS Cross sectional study conducted at an inherited retinal dystrophies reference center. Consecutive patients with nsRP and available genetic testing results performed between 2018 and 2020 were included. Genetic testing was clinically-oriented and variants were classified according to the Am erican College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Only class IV or V variants were considered dise...

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on surgical primary retinal detachments
This study enrolled four hundred and forty-nine eyes of 443 patients: 272 in the pre-COVID group and 177 in the COVID one. Of the patients, 63.6% were male and the mean±SD age was 63.0±13.2y (range 13 to 92y). Of the eyes, 55.5% (n = 151) presented with macular detachment in the pre-COVID group compared with 66.9% ( n = 119) in the COVID group (odds ratio [OR] 1.62; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.09-3.86; p=0.016). The time from symptoms onset to hospital admission (p=0.021) and from admission to surgery (p (Source: Ophthalmologica)

The effect of selective retina therapy for bevacizumab-resistant chronic central serous chorioretinopathy
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of selective retina therapy (SRT), used in conjunction with real-time feedback dosimetry (RFD), in the treatment of bevacizumab-resistant chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Patients and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 22 eyes of 22 patients with anti-VEGF-resistant chronic CSC, showing focal or diffuse foveal leakages on fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), were included. After evaluation of the test spots at temporal arcades, SRT (wavelength, 527 nm; pulse repetition rate, 100 Hz; ramping over maximal 15 micropulses; and spot diameter, 200 µm) using RFD was ap...
