A rare malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 23;27(4):172. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14305. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTMalignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis is a rare, highly invasive urogenital malignant tumor with no specific clinical manifestations. Reported cases of this disease are limited. Therefore, an early preoperative diagnosis is difficult. The current study presents a case of malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis and a literature review. A 52-year-old man was admitted to Xiaoshan Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (Hangzhou, China) in December 2022 and underwent radical resection of the righ...

Doxazosin inhibits vasculogenic mimicry in human non ‑small cell lung cancer through inhibition of the VEGF‑A/VE‑cadherin/mTOR/MMP pathway
In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that doxazosin displayed anti-VM activity in an NSCLC cell model through the downregulation of VEGF-A and VE-cadherin levels, and the suppression of signaling pathways related to the receptor tyrosine kinase, EphA2, protein kinases, AKT and mTOR, and proteases, MMP-2 and MMP-9. These results support the add-on anti-VM effect of doxazosin as a potential agent against NSCLC.PMID:38455663 | PMC:PMC10918514 | DOI:10.3892/ol.2024.14303 (Source: Oncology Letters)

Tumor reduction after SARS ‑CoV‑2 infection in a patient with lung cancer: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 22;27(4):169. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14302. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTLung cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Since the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on lung cancer has been extensively studied. Despite reports about SARS-CoV-2 infection inducing a significant increase in the number of medical visits for patients with cancer, the virus has also been reported to produce some unknown benefits. The present study reports the case of a patient with lung cancer whos...

Malignant struma ovarii with synchronous primary papillary thyroid cancer in the neck: A case report and literature review
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 23;27(4):174. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14307. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTMalignant struma ovarii (MSO) with synchronous primary thyroid cancer in the neck is extremely rare and lacks a treatment consensus. A 44-year-old woman presenting with a left ovarian cyst was admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Beijing, China) Ultrasonography showed a 6 cm solid-cystic left ovarian mass with plentiful blood signals. Other notable findings were an elevated CA125 level and a suspected malignant thyroid nodule. A unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (USO) was conducted, and the surgical pathology was papill...

Extracellular cancer ‑associated fibroblasts: A novel subgroup in the cervical cancer microenvironment that exhibits tumor‑promoting roles and prognosis biomarker functions
In conclusion, the present study assessed the heterogeneity of CAFs in the cervical cancer microenvironment, and a subgroup of CAFs that may be closely associated with tumor progression was defined. Moreover, a signature based on the hub genes of ecCAFs was shown to have biomarker functionality in terms of predicting survival rates, and therefore this CAF subgroup may become a therapeutic target for cervical cancer in the future.PMID:38449793 | PMC:PMC10915806 | DOI:10.3892/ol.2024.14300 (Source: Oncology Letters)
