Caring for Muslim Patients
Studies show that Muslim American patients experience discrimination and feel uncomfortable seeking appropriate health care for various reasons. Obstetrician-gynecologists should be educated regarding Islamic perspectives on topics such as modesty, sexual health, contraception, abortion, infertility, and fasting during pregnancy. Addressing the Increased Demand for Fertility Services
More than 10 years ago, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America published an issue pertaining to medical and surgical management of common fertility issues. Since that time, demand for infertility services has grown owing to several reasons. Increased access to fertility services, a growing population, and improving success with assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) come to mind. This increased need has led to an update on infertility, as coedited by Amanda Adeleye, MD and Alberuni Musa Zamah, MD, PhD from the University of Chicago. (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics)

Progress on the Endometrium
The endometrium is a dynamic tissue that facilitates mammalian internal reproduction and thus, the ability to deliver live born progeny that are more easily protected from predators. This tissue is unique in its ability to undergo cyclic regeneration and destruction in the absence of pregnancy. Ovarian steroids guide endometrial proliferation and maturation promoting its receptivity and selectivity with regards to blastocyst implantation. It is decidualization, terminal stromal maturation, that prevents the trophoblast from breeching containment of the uterus and allows for endometrial sloughing should pregnancy not occur....

Breaking Down Barriers
Infertility can affect all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Barriers to quality fertility care include access, financial limitations, education, and social stigmas. Although racial disparities in outcomes of assisted reproductive technology can be largely attributed to the influences of systemic racism (not race), we can make changes to improve equity of care. We propose strategies in the areas of advocacy, clinical setting, community, and outcomes to address the racial disparities. (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics)

The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Assisted Reproductive Technologies
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, the form most commonly used in medicine, offer powerful tools utilizing the strengths of large data sets and intelligent algorithms. These systems can help to revolutionize delivery of treatments, access to medical care, and improvement of outcomes, particularly in the realm of reproductive medicine. Whether that is more robust oocyte and embryo grading or more accurate follicular measurement, AI will be able to aid clinicians, and most importantly patients, in providing the best possible and individualized care. However, despite all of the potential strengths of AI, algor...
