Lipid Profile and the Frequency of Dyslipidemia in Iranian Adolescents with Severe Obesity, Who Were Candidates for Bariatric Surgery
ConclusionThe prevalence of dyslipidemia was found to be high among Iranian adolescents with severe obesity. Hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL-C were the most common types of dyslipidemia in this population. Therefore, screening for dyslipidemia may be clinically useful in adolescents with severe obesity; timely diagnosis and treatment may prevent the occurrence of coronary events in the future.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

The Effect of Diet Composition on the Post-operative Outcomes of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in Mice
ConclusionPost-operative diet plays a significant role in determining the degree to which RYGB reverses obesity-induced metabolic abnormalities such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and NAFLD. Diet composition may be targeted in order to assist in the treatment of post-RYGB bone mineral density loss and vitamin D deficiency as well as to reverse myeloid lineage commitment. HFD after RYGB continues to pose a significant multidimensional health risk.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

SF-6D Normative Values Among Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery: Results Based on Real-World Evidence from the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry (SOReg)
AbstractBackgroundThe SF-6D index can be used to calculate quality-adjusted life years in economic evaluations, which is required by reimbursement agencies and national advisory bodies, including the Swedish ones. However, despite that SF-36 has been largely applied among patients undergoing bariatric surgery, almost no study has accessed theshort form six-dimensions (SF-6D) after bariatric surgery.AimTo establish normative values for the SF-6D index among patients undergoing bariatric surgery.Materials and MethodsAll patients who received bariatric surgery in Sweden between 2011 –01-01 and 2019–03-31 were obtained fro...

Laparoscopic Conversion of Gastric Bypass to Distal Gastric Bypass for Inadequate Weight Loss
ConclusionWe present a case of distalization of a RYGB for weight recurrence, highlighting the technical pearls when performing the procedure. Accurate, intraoperative measurement of the total alimentary limb length is essential to achieve weight loss while minimizing malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies. Assessment of preoperative nutritional levels for evidence of any protein calorie malnutrition is important during surgical decision-making  when this conversional metabolic operation is considered. Frequent, postoperative nutritional monitoring is important and occurs with a full bariatric nutritional panel at 3, 6, 9,...

Efficacy of Nissen Sleeve Gastrectomy on Mid-term Barrett ’s Esophagus Regression
ConclusionThe NSG is associated with healing of known BE in approximately two-thirds of patients at 2-year follow-up. This is consistent with the GERD improvement that has been shown with NSG.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

Plasma SHBG Levels as an Early Predictor of Response to Bariatric Surgery
ConclusionsOur results showed for the first time that increase in plasma SHBG levels within the first month after BS is a good predictor of TWL and WR response after 2  years.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

The Utilisation of Digital Applications for Measuring Patient Outcomes Following Bariatric Surgery: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Comparative Studies
AbstractIn the context of escalating obesity rates, bariatric surgery holds a crucial role in managing severely obese patients. With a demonstrated effectiveness in weight loss and with the advent of ambulatory surgery, bariatric surgery allows for a streamlined care pathway, ideally suited for postoperative surveillance using digital health applications. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the effect of eHealth-delivered health services or support for adults undergoing bariatric surgery. Five studies, encompassing 2210 patients, were analysed. The intervention group showed a 10% increase in ...

Management of Malnutrition and Hepatic Impairment After Duodenal Switch
ConclusionsWhile refractory malnutrition and/or liver failure are rare among patients post-DS, if underdiagnosed and untreated, this can lead to irreversible outcomes and death. All revisional procedures included in this study resulted in improvement of the nutritional status and reversal of liver impairment, with low complication rates.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

Implementation of Artificial Intelligence –Based Computer Vision Model for Sleeve Gastrectomy: Experience in One Tertiary Center
ConclusionsThe AI model provides a fully automated SG video analysis. Outcomes suggest its accuracy in four of five safety milestone annotations. This data is valuable, as it reflects objective performance measures which can help us improve the surgical quality and efficiency of SG. Larger cohorts will enable SG standardization and clinical correlations with outcomes, aiming to improve patients ’ safety.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)

Two-Year Study on the Impact of Sleeve Gastrectomy on Depressive and Anxiety Symptoms in Adolescents and Young Adults with Moderate to Severe Obesity
ConclusionNo change was found in depressive and anxiety symptomatology following surgery despite marked weight reduction over a 2-year period, underscoring the need to better evaluate psychopathology in youth undergoing SG to develop supportive therapeutic strategies.ClinicalTrials.gov IdentifierNCT02557438https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02557438?id=NCT02557438&draw=2&rank=1; The study was registered on 23 September 2015.Graphical Abstract (Source: Obesity Surgery)
