Patient factors associated with weight gain and weight loss after knee or hip arthroplasty
ConclusionDifferent mechanisms are likely associated with significant weight gain or loss at 3-years post-surgery. Cogent weight management entails consideration of both outcomes. Many post-surgical factors appear not to be importantly associated with weight change. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Early LV remodelling patterns in overweight and obesity: Feasibility of cardiac CT to detect early geometric left ventricular changes
ConclusionsOur study demonstrates a non-linear (inverse U-shape) relationship between increasing BMI class and concentricity index, reaching its maximum at a BMI of 30–34.99 kg/m2. Further increase in BMI results in LV dilation. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Telephone-based cognitive behavioural therapy for female patients 1-year post-bariatric surgery: A pilot study
DiscussionThe results demonstrate that Tele-CBT delivered 1-year post-surgery may improve binge eating, emotional eating, depression, and anxiety. Additional research is warranted to examine whether these changes translate into long-term improvements in bariatric surgery outcomes. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Interaction effects of FTO rs9939609 polymorphism and lifestyle factors on obesity indices in early adolescence
ConclusionFTO rs9939609 had an obvious and independent effect on obesity-related indices in early adolescents. Soft drinks may exert a modifying effect on the relationship between FTO rs9939609 and BMI. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Long term effect of spa therapy combined with patient education program on subjects with overweight and obesity — A controlled study
In conclusion, while spa therapy alone initiated positive changes in weight loss, physical activity and some quality of life parameters, the PTE program enhanced this effect. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease does not predict worse perioperative outcomes in bariatric surgery
ConclusionNAFLD patients had lower mortality and complication rates following BS. A significant postsurgical weight loss should attenuate liver inflammation and fibrosis, and therefore has the potential to stop or even reverse progression of liver disease. Markers of adipose tissue inflammation are transiently elevated during intermittent fasting in women who are overweight or obese
ConclusionsUnlike caloric restriction, IF transiently elevated markers of macrophage infiltration in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle, possibly in response to marked increases in adipose tissue lipolysis. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)

Relationships between adiposity and postural control in girls during balance tasks of varying difficulty
ConclusionsGirls with greater adiposity may have impairments in postural control, but only during more challenging postural control conditions. In contrast, BMI has little role to play in girls’ postural control in easier postural control conditions (standing with feet together). These findings may suggest potential functional or safety considerations when girls with overweight/obesity are performing demanding postural control tasks (such as during sport or physical activity). Neighbourhood socioeconomic circumstances, adiposity and cardiometabolic risk measures in children with severe obesity
ConclusionsThe present data suggest that neighbourhood-related issues are associated with less severe adiposity among children with established obesity. Concerning cardiometabolic risk factors, shopping facilities were related to dyslipidemia and fatty liver. These findings suggest that increased awareness and efforts are needed to diminish socioeconomic inequalities between neighbourhoods. (Source: Obesity Research and Clinical Practice)
