Changes in food habits in cancer patients in Italy: a survey AIOM – SINPE - FAVO
• Cancer patients seem to be very attentive to diet related information• More than half of patients change food habits during cancer treatment• Patients' reason for changing are: healthier diet, cancer sites, side effects• Major changes reflect some indications for cancer prevention• Nutri tion intervention specific for cancer sites and treatment are lacking (Source: Nutrition)

Ultrasound measurement of intra-abdominal fat thickness as a predictor of insulin resistance and low HDL cholesterol in asians
• Preperitoneal fat independently determine insulin resistance and low HDL-C in Singaporean men.• Subcutaneous fat was a determinant of insulin resistance, elevated TG and low HDL-C in women.• Fat measurement by ultrasound have the potential to differentiate individuals at risk for CVD. Adipose tissue fatty acid composition and cognitive impairment
• Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), present in fatty fish, may protect against cognitive decline.• Adipose tissue fatty acid composition reflects long-term exposure to EPA and DHA.• High EPA to arachidonic acid ratio in adipose tissue was associated with better cognit ive function. Cystic fibrosis, body composition, and health outcomes: a systematic review
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that is caused byrecessive mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene, which cause altered transport of chloride, bicarbonate, and sodium ions across the epithelial cell membranes [1]. The phenotypic manifestations of this dysfunction are abnormal fluid transport and accumulation of thick mucus in different organs such as the liver, pancreas, intestines, and lungs [2]. It's craving time: time of day effects on momentary hunger and food craving in daily life
• Hunger and food craving are two distinct components influencing food intake• Hunger and general desire for tasty foods exhibited similar patterns with two peaks across the day• Specific desire for meal-type versus snack-type food showed distinct coherence with hunger• Research and interven tions should differentiate food craving for several food categories (Source: Nutrition)

Marine ω-3, vitamin D levels, disease outcome and periodontal status in rheumatoid arthritis outpatients
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and periodontitis are chronic progressive inflammatory diseases associated with soft and hard tissue destruction. Genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors drive host responses in both diseases [1 –3]. An association between periodontitis and RA has been described in systematic reviews [4] and meta-analyses [5]. The etiopathogenesis of RA is complex and the offending stimulus is still not clear. It is hypothesized that a second inflammatory “hit” is required to stimulate development of the disease [6]. (Source: Nutrition)

Marine omega-3, vitamin D levels, disease outcome and periodontal status in rheumatoid arthritis outpatients
• Periodontitis was most prevalent in RA patients seropositive for RF and/or ACPA• Seafood intake in accordance to the recommendation was related to lower RA (MHAQ,VAS)• A favorable omega-3 index (>8%) was associated with the use of omega-3 supplement • An omega-3 index>8 was also related to more desirable VAS and lower PD • VitD status was overall good, and did not differ for RA and periodontal measurements (Source: Nutrition)
