Facilitators and inhibitors of traumatic brain injury transfers: A fieldwork investigation
AbstractAimIntensified healthcare specialization has increased the need for patient transfers. We aimed to describe in-hospital and interhospital patient transfer decisions during the traumatic brain injury (TBI) trajectory from a nursing perspective.DesignEthnographic fieldwork.MethodsWe used participant observation and interviews at three sites representing the acute, subacute and stable stages of the TBI trajectory. Deductive analysis was applied supported by transition theory.ResultsDuring the acute stage (neurointensive care), transfer decisions were facilitated by physicians assisted by critical care nurses, in the s...

Health advocacy role performance of nurses in underserved populations: A grounded theory study
ConclusionAlthough some nurses proactively initiated biopsychosocial assessment and performed the HA role, most of them relied on clients' requests to perform the role. Stakeholders should prioritise critical thinking during training and intensify mentoring programmes in the clinical areas.Relevance for Clinical PracticeThe present study explains the process by which nurses perform their roles as health advocates in their daily activities as nurses. The findings can be used to teach and guide clinical practice for the HA role in nursing and other health care fields. There was no patient or public contribution. (Source: Nursing Open)

The effects of a 24 ‐week interactive text message‐based mobile health intervention for enhancing self‐care behaviours of patients with heart failure: A quasi‐experimental study
ConclusionsWe found that the program, as an interactive text messaging service, may be an optimal strategy for improving long-term adherence to self-care behaviours through motivating and providing social support.Relevance to the Nursing PracticeTheWithUs program can help nurses and other healthcare professionals to track patients' health indicators such as symptom severity, diet and physical activity. In addition, nurses can take an important role in evaluating the efficacy of the app in relation to patients' health outcome.Patient or Public ContributionPatients have completed a self-reported questionnaire after providing...

Predicting physical activity and sarcopenia ‐related health outcomes in women with rheumatoid arthritis: A test of the self‐determination theory
This study aimed to examine a hypothetical model of physical activity (PA) and health outcomes related to sarcopenia in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on self-determination theory.DesignCross-sectional study.MethodsThis study included 214 women diagnosed with RA from the outpatient rheumatology department of a university-affiliated hospital in South Korea. Data were collected from September 2019 to August 2020 through structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements and analysed using path analysis to test the hypothesized model. The primary health outcomes were perceived health status and sarcopenia-r...
