Improving equitable access to inclusive sexual healthcare in a small urban college health setting
ConclusionsThis project addressed equity in a college health setting through improved student engagement, targeted workflow innovation, and enhanced team collaboration. Application of key findings to other health topics will continue to mitigate disparities in college health centers. Tools may also be applied to adolescent and adult primary care settings to improve patient comfort and SGM-inclusive sexual health service delivery. (Source: Nursing Forum)

Bodywork and nursing practice: Development of a bodywork in nursing practice instrument
AbstractNursing's continued focus on caring for physical aspects of patients' bodies underscores the importance of bodywork and shows nursing's privileged, professional access to patients. This instrument development study presents the first phases of a new instrument. It established a conceptual definition of nursing's bodywork and initial psychometric properties of the Nursing Bodywork Instrument. Literature sources generated codes and clusters for item development. Literature-based and expert content validity were demonstrated. A pilot study tested nurses' (N = 53) agreement with draft items. The highest-ranked item...

Detecting blood transfusion reactions: What are vital signs anyway?
AbstractThere is a lack of consistency in the scientific literature regarding what is included in vital signs and considered derangement in findings. We used vital signs during blood product administration as an exemplar to explore this controversy. Vital sign components varied across all studies when reviewed by a cohort of frontline nurses attempting to align institutional policy with current evidence. Only low-level data linking conventional approaches to vital sign monitoring for transfusion reaction detection were found. (Source: Nursing Forum)

Instrumental support: A conceptual analysis
AbstractThe aim of this paper was to use the Walker and Avant method of concept analysis to evaluate the concept of instrumental support in the context of hospital to home care transitions. Findings from this concept analysis suggest three defining attributes of instrumental support: informal support providers, tangible support, and unmet personal needs. Antecedents identified: a strong and supportive social network, an independently functioning adult, an illness resulting in hospitalization, a change in functional status, and the patient being discharged home from the hospital. Consequences of not having adequate instrume...

Confidence, skills and barriers to ostomy patient care by nursing staff in Saudi Arabia
ConclusionWhile the majority of nurses were confident in their ability to care for patients with ostomies, they were concerned about causing stoma problems. This suggests that improving the quality of ostomy care provided by nurses may result in fewer negative outcomes for patients with ostomies. (Source: Nursing Forum)

Association of stress, resilience, and nursing student incivility during COVID ‐19
AbstractAlthough incivility in nursing education is linked with negative physical and psychological effects on students, it is unclear how resilience and stress interact and relate to student incivility. The purpose was to understand the role of resilience and stress with peer incivility in a sample of prelicensure nursing students during coronavirus disease 2019. The study design was cross-sectional and correlational. Data were from an online survey administered to undergraduate nursing students of one college of nursing in a southwestern US  state during September–October 2020. A reflexive thematic analysis of the patterns of knowing in wound management amongst specialist and generalist nurses
ConclusionThe knowledge that nurses apply in wound management is multidimensional, contextual, and highly integrated; with components that are unique from nursing knowledge in the wider sense. Although the patterns of knowing in wound management are well integrated, they are not equally represented and the types of knowledge that nurses demonstrate is not consistently aligned with those that they value.ImpactSignificant distinctions were not found between wound management specialist and generalists, however specific traits were identified in the knowledge development of those working in a community role and industry repres...
