Exploring the relationship between admission pulse pressure and clinical features in patients with spontaneous supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage
In conclusion, our investigation demonstrates a significant relationship between admission pulse pressure and severe clinical characteristics in ICH patients. Importantly, a wider pulse pressure is linked to heightened in-hospital mo rtality. These results underscore the necessity for customized strategies to predict patient outcomes in this population. Further research is essential to explore potential therapeutic interventions targeting pulse pressure to improve clinical outcomes for ICH patients. (Source: Neurosurgical Review)

Assessment of Ki-67 expression levels in IDH-wildtype glioblastoma using logistic regression modelling of VASARI features
AbstractTo investigate the value of using VASARI signs preoperatively to assess Ki-67 proliferation index levels in patients with IDH-wildtype glioblastoma (GB).Pathological and imaging data of 154 patients with GB confirmed by surgical pathology were retrospectively analysed, and the level of Ki-67 proliferative index was assessed in tumour tissue samples from patients using immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining. Patients were divided into a high and low Ki-67 proliferation index expression group. Two radiologists analysed MRI images of patients with IDH-wildtype GB using the VASARI features system. VASARI parameters betwee...

C-reactive protein levels, the prognostic nutritional index, and the lactate dehydrogenase-to-lymphocyte ratio are important prognostic factors in primary central nervous system lymphoma: a single-center study of 223 patients
AbstractPrimary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare and highly aggressive type of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and the prognosis is poor. Currently, the most used prognostic models are the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group (IELSG) scores; however, their predictive effects are changing with increasing incidence and changing treatment regimens. A growing body of evidence has demonstrated that inflammatory and nutritional markers are factors that can determine tumor prognosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify and validate no...

Anatomical study of the mastoid foramina and mastoid emissary veins: classification and application to localizing the sigmoid sinus
AbstractThe mastoid foramen (MF) is located on the mastoid process of the temporal bone, adjacent to the occipitomastoid suture or the parietomastoid suture, and contains the mastoid emissary vein (MEV). In retrosigmoid craniotomy, the MEV has been used to localize the position of the sigmoid sinus and, thus, the placement of the initial burr hole. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the exact location and variants of the MF and MEV to determine if their use in localizing the sigmoid sinus is reasonable. The sample in this study comprised 22 adult dried skulls (44 sides). MF were identified and classified into five type...

Fully neuroendoscopic resection of cerebellopontine angle tumors through a retrosigmoid approach: a retrospective single-center study
The objective of this study is to preliminarily investigate the surgical safety, efficacy, techniques, and clinical value of fully neuroendoscopic surgery for the resection of cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumors via a retrosigmoid approach. The clinical data of 47 cerebellopontine angle area (CPA) tumors that were treated by full neuroendoscopic surgery from June 2014 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The efficacy and advantages of the surgical techniques were evaluated based on indicators such as duration of the surgery, neuroendoscopic techniques, intraoperative integrity of nerves and blood vessels, extent of ...

Exploring the influence of nasal morbidity on quality of life following endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery: a retrospective cohort study of 95 patients
AbstractThe endoscopic endonasal approach is more disruptive to normal anatomy (particularly nasal mucosa) than the transseptal submucosal microscopic approach. This may result in greater postoperative nasal morbidity, in turn reducing quality of life. We aimed to assess the severity and time course of nasal morbidity, and its impact on quality of life, following endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery in this retrospective cohort study. We identified 95 patients who underwent endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery for anterior skull base pathologies. Nasal-specific questions from the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) ...

Fusiform aneurysms of anterior cerebral artery: center experience and systematic literature review
AbstractFusiform aneurysms of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) are uncommon, and the natural history of this entity is poorly characterized. Along with our center experience, we conducted a systematic literature review to help shed light on the clinical course of ACA fusiform aneurysms. We queried our institutional database to identify cases with fusiform aneurysms of ACA. In addition, following the PRISMA algorithm, we identified all reported cases published in the English literature from the inception of PubMed until December 2022. We categorized clinical presentations into three categories: (i) traumatic/iatrogenic, (...

Fluorescence-guided resection of intradural spinal tumors: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractIntradural spinal tumors present significant challenges due to involvement of critical motor and sensory tracts. Achieving maximal resection while preserving functional tissue is therefore crucial. Fluorescence-guided surgery aims to improve resection accuracy and is well studied for brain tumors, but its efficacy has not been fully assessed for spinal tumors. This meta-analysis aims to delineate the efficacy of fluorescence guidance in intradural  spinal tumor resection. The authors performed a systematic review in four databases. We included studies that have utilized fluorescence agents, 5-aminolevulinic acid (...

Usefulness of time-resolved MR angiography in spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) —a systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aims to evaluate the usefulness of time-resolved MR angiography (TR –MRA) in SDAVF diagnosis. We performed a systematic review of the PubMed and EMBASE databases followed by a meta-analysis. TR–MRA was an index test, and spinal DSA was a reference. Of the initial 324 records, we included 4 studies describing 71 patients with SDAVFs. In 42 cases, TR–MRA was tru e positive, and in 21 cases, it was true negative. We found 7 false-positive cases and 1 false negative. TR–MRA allowed for shunt level identification in 39 cases. Of these, the predicted level was correct in 23 cases (59%), to within 1 level in 38...
