Fampridine and Acetazolamide in EA2 and Related Familial EA: A Prospective Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial
Conclusion Both fampridine and acetazolamide significantly reduce the number of attacks in patients with EA2 and related EA in comparison to placebo. Fampridine 10 mg twice daily had fewer side effects than acetazolamide 250 mg 3 times daily. The trial was registered with DRKS.de (DRKS00005258) and EudraCT (2013-000107-17). This study was supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) (grant number 01EO0901). Fampridine (study medication) was provided by Biogen Idec. Classification of Evidence Class II evidence. (Source: Neurology Clinical Practice)

Implementation and Follow-up Experience of an e-Consult Program in a Rural Neurology Setting
Conclusions AAD provides an interface between PCPs and neurology specialists and can assist in determining whether a patient needs to be seen urgently in the clinic, the correct subspecialty, and prerequisite diagnostic tests. AAD was successfully implemented and used in our rural neurology setting, with rapid turnaround, increased usage, and accuracy. (Source: Neurology Clinical Practice)

Characterization of Postanoxic Tonic Eyelid Opening: A Poorly Recognized Prognostic Sign
Conclusions Contrary to previous descriptions, the postanoxic tonic eyelid openings (PATEO) are repetitive but nonperiodic, nonmyoclonic movements. Their close and specific temporal correlation with the burst of EEG activity suggests that this could be considered an ictal phenomenon requiring an intact midbrain based on MRI findings. Clinical Diagnostic Accuracy of Early/Advanced Parkinson Disease: An Updated Clinicopathologic Study
Conclusions This updated study confirmed lower clinical diagnostic accuracy for elderly, untreated or poorly responsive PossPD participants and for ProbPD with <5 years of disease duration, even when medication responsive. Caution continues to be needed when interpreting clinical studies of PD, especially studies of early disease, that do not have autopsy confirmation. Classification of Evidence This study provides Class II evidence that a clinical diagnosis of ProbPD at the first visit identifies participants who will have pathologically confirmed PD with a sensitivity of 82.6% and a specificity of 86.0%. Cohort Study in Parkinsonism: Delayed Transit, Accelerated Gastric Emptying, and Prodromal Dysmotility
Conclusions Accelerated GE was newly identified in patients with parkinsonism, in addition to delayed GE or colonic transit. Furthermore, gut dysmotility was objectively identified to precede the motor onset of parkinsonism. (Source: Neurology Clinical Practice)
