Uses of the NIH Toolbox(R) in Clinical Samples: A Scoping Review
The objective of this scoping review was to assess the extent to which the NIH Toolbox has been used with clinical populations.
Methods
Guided by the Joanna Briggs Methods Manual for Scoping Reviews, records were identified through searches of PubMed MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ClinicalTrials.gov, EMBASE, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global (2008–2020). Database searches yielded 5,693 unique titles of original research that used at least one NIH Toolbox assessment in a sample characterized by any clinical diagnosis. Diagnostic Accuracy of Clinical Signs and Biochemical Parameters for External Ventricular CSF Catheter-Associated Infection
This study provides Class I evidence that in individuals requiring an external ventricular CSF catheter, an elevated CSF leukocyte count and an increased percentage of PMNs are the strongest indicators of catheter-associated infections in the days before CSF culture positivity. Inpatients With Dementia Referred for Palliative Care Consultation: A Multicenter Analysis
Discussion
Inpatients with a primary diagnosis of dementia receiving PC consultation were older and more functionally impaired than those with other illnesses. They were more likely to have a code status of DNR/DNI at discharge. Few reported distressing symptoms. These results highlight the need for routine clarification of GOC for patients with dementia. Scoliosis in Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 in the Nusinersen Era

Prevalence of Rhinorrhea in Parkinson Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

To perform a systematic review and determine the prevalence of rhinorrhea in Parkinson disease (PD).
Recent Findings
Of 451 patients with PD and 233 controls, the pooled prevalence of rhinorrhea in patients with PD was 45.0% (95% confidence interval 33.94–56.40), which was significantly greater than that in controls (p < 0.001). Severity of Epilepsy and Response to Antiseizure Medications in Individuals With Multiple Sclerosis: Analysis of a Real-World Dataset
This study supports the notion that individuals with MS + E can have more severe epilepsy than those with E – MS. Seizure severity among individuals with MS + E treated with sodium channel blockers/modulators vs other ASM classes shows no significant differences.
